KaMario Taylor is the future for State in my opinion...

My first answer is play him as little as possible in mop up duty and to maintain his eligibility year. But now since its the wild wild west if you don't play him somebody is going to come in and out bid you for his services so.........

But how will you get 8 games out of Shapen?
That's the question mark but he's also got to beat out KroHawk for that #2 spot. People are losing their crap over a spring game that was 100% meaningless. If Shapen goes down, I imagine both backups play.

I've thought since we recruited him - he was the real deal. Luke K was signed in my opinion as an emergency. The one thing about Taylor is he showed "loyalty" because I think he could have gone to another school but chose to stay with State. Don't know if he stayed because he loved the school, $$, or what but he stayed. I think Luke K will leave as soon as it looks like he might not be the starter.

I just have a lot more trust (as much as you can have in NIL) from a Mississippi kid than someone who transferred in.

This is the challenge. Instead of the question just being, "who is the #2", if/when Shapen goes down, you have to think, if Kroenhoek (no clue how to spell his name) is the #2 and shows out, is he going to jump for the high bid after the season and then you're left with Taylor who at best just missed out on some opportunity to get in-game development, and at worst is pissed he wasn't the #2. You have to take the likelihood of keeping a guy into account when deciding on who gets playing time if you'r enot in a position to win now anyway.

Kroenhoeks father did make a comment about one of the factors in his decision being that he didn't want to play in a different school every year, but it's easy to say that when people aren't beating your door down with NIL offers. On the other hand, same thing applies to Taylor being loyal. Your first commitment probably should be to somewhere you can get playing time early, as you can always get jumped if you bide your time as a backup. Don't have any reason to think that was part of his decision making, but Taylor could very well be looking at the "back end of the roster" that were recruited with him and be thinking he is going to get some playing time as quickly as possible and then needs to make a jump when he gets the opportunity.

We need to win games.

I'd play the heck out of him & put in a 3rd or 4th down & 3 yards or less package for him like Dan did for Dak.

Kamario would give us a run/pass option with legit size in short yardage situations along with helping keep Shapen healthy from having to run

I'm withholding any judgment until I actually see him play a game. We've gone through about a dozen "this QB is the future of MSU football" over the last 20 years. A couple of them actually were the future of MSU football. Most of them, I can't even remember their names. But if Taylor is as good as he's being hyped up to be, he wont be at Mississippi State for long.

How would you handle him for next season?
Is the rule that you can play four games and redshirt? That's what I would think about. And I would not waste one of them against Alcorn. Something like Southern, Northern Illinois, Arkansas and Ole Miss.

He is going to be great, there's no doubt in my mind. But he's a true FR coming from 3A MS HS football and has a lot to learn. No point in playing him until he's ready if you don't have to and I trust Lebby with QBs. He's definitely not beating out Shapen this year, but he might KroHawk if Shapen goes down. But people are discounting KroHawk in a big way too, he's legit as well. Our talent in that QB room is the best I've ever seen here.

Taylor was Jason Campbell 2.0 two years ago. He's gone past that the last couple years and really improved his throwing motion etc. Also is faster/quicker now too. Lebby is 100% about a QB competition but Taylor has no shot of beating out Shapen, it's what happens if Shapen gets hurt that decides how much time Taylor gets. He's going to get his 4 games for sure, if he picks up things quickly, we'll see what happens but he's got a chance to be great here and has good people in his corner.

I feel more like Taylor is the future for another top tier SEC program than he is our future. I assume he'll redshirt this year and maybe take snaps in a few games then start next season. After a good showing as a starter, he'll get scooped up by Bama, Texas or Georgia for major $$$.

After being burned by MVB I would say play him if you have to but I would play Shapen until he breaks unless he is just that much better overall and helps us win, but there is also a chance he plays well and gets a bigger check to move. Actually don't really care until transfer portal is fixed somehow I'm not getting invested on any player. He might not even be here in the fall

If he’s the real deal someone will offer him money we can’t. The living at home connection won’t overcome big $$. My prediction is two years max.
We can pay him plenty if we get to that point. You guys act like we've been losing great players on the regular and we haven't. Poor Oles will always Poor Ole everything in their minds

What great players do we have that others want? Who are we actually paying quite well to stay and how much is "plenty" compared to what others offer? Are other SEC teams worried they'll lose great players to State because we can pay "plenty"?

We couldn't even recently hold on to a good but not great starter in basketball who would be useful next year.

We are MSU. That brings the certainty that if a QB is #2 on the depth chart, we fully believe he’s better than #1. Always.

My thoughts are Shaoen obviously starts as long as possible. Luke gets quite a few snaps in running situations yo mix it up. He is a good runner. KT gets his time to get a little experience and still redshirt. KT starts next year and Luke is in the portal again. And yes people will be coming after KT but hopefully somebody will ante up and we can hold him to carry State back to the Glory Days.

Of course if you have a good player you play him because you want to win regardless of whether he might be gone after the season's over. That's just college football now for non-elite programs.

That's the rule for all college football programs. And has been for a long time. If a guy can play and contribute, you play him. If he can't, you don't. The days of redshirting a player who could have contributed this year ended over a decade ago, if not longer.
