Kansas State Comparsion

I keep comparing out current program to the K-State situation of the early-90s when Bill Snyder started out…K-State loaded their non-conference schedule with easy wins (Temple, Cincinnati, Northern Illinois) and established an overall winning record to help with recruiting…if you remember, K-State was one of the worst D1 teams in the 20[SUP]th[/SUP] century until Snyder came along. K-State wasn’t successful against OU, Nebraska and Colorado in the early 90’s, but they ended the 90’s with some impressive records and wins over these teams…

1989 1-10, 1990 5-6, 1991 7-4, 1992 5-6, 1993 9-2-1, 1994 9-3 , 1995 10-2
1996 9-3, 1997 11-1, 1998 11-2, 1999 11-1

Dan has some advantages that Snyder didn’t have…Manhattan, KS is located in the middle of Kansas…limited high school programs in Kansas (some in Wichita and Overland Park)…Snyder did/does have decent JUCO programs in Kansas…Dan has the SEC to use in recruiting…Starkville is much closer to some larger metro areas (Atlanta, Birmingham, New Orleans, Memphis)…Starkville is turning into a real college town (as compared to when I was there in the mid-80s)…Dan has some decent high school programs in Mississippi and JUCO programs to recruit from…Dan has SEC money coming in to the coffers…Dan has national championship experience at UF and building a strong program at Utah…I don’t recall Snyder’s AD situation, but Dan has a very supportive AD and university administration.

Dan disadvantages are playing Bama, LSU, Arkansas, TAMU, Auburn and a very bitter in-state rival…Dan’s records in the first four years…compare this to Snyder’s 1989-1992 schedule and Dan’s overall records are starting to be consistent...

2009 5-7, 2010 9-4, 2011 7-5 and 2012 7-3

Bottom Line…I like where we are and the future is bright…current recruiting class, stadium expansion and improved facilities…if K-State can do it, we can do it.
