I feel like we should be above "being happy" when people lose their jobs. This thread is a little odd to me.
Maybe, but I will not lose any sleep seeing grossly overpaid "journalists" who criticize my alma mater for the sake of clicks and ratings lose their jobs. I view it as a market correction.
Yeah. Michelle Beadle is the one I want to see looking for a job. Her statement about someone should hit Allen in the mouth is one of the most unprofessional things I've ever heard from anyone. OFC
I've always viewed journalists as the scum of America so seeing bad things happen to them brings a smile to my face.
Bilas is the best on air and game analyst that ESPN has for college basketball by far. Williams is great at half time analysis and think he will get his shot at calling games once they get rid of idiots like Bill Walton and Dickie V who should have been put out to pasture years ago.
Man a lot of you guys are really showing your ***. These people lost their jobs and for some the way they provide for their families. Anyone who has been let go knows how miserable that situation can be. Who cares if they haven't viewed your team through the same Duke colored glasses. Grow up
Their jobs shouldn't exist in the first place. It's not the same as a laid off coal miner.
So Google isn't 100% accurate. Disney is publicly traded so their contracts may be available but the chances that the rest of their financials are is 0%. The President won't even release his taxes I doubt we have an accurate representation of Dana O'Neil's net worth. How much she makes shouldn't factor into this, be a human being. You have no idea if her child has an illness that requires large financial obligations or some other event.
Much of their job was spewing bias and ridicule without taking the time to check facts. It's likely all of them have already made more than I ever will. I'll feel bad if losing their jobs were to truly impact their lives. I doubt it will except they may have to move somewhere else to make millions of dollars.
1) you are going to use the example of a coal miner as a job that is necessary in 2017
2) I think a lot of people could look in the mirror in a moment of honesty and realize they are 100% replaceable
3) the issue isn't whether or not the job should exist, it's the people here that are taking pleasure in the fact that someone lost their job. Two different conversations.
I wouldn't say I'm taking pleasure so much as I'm indifferent. I mean, Danny Kanell made millions in the NFL, then more millions at ESPN. How broken up should I be that he has to seek another job where he'll make millions?
So I don't get pleasure, but I sure don't feel that bad for most of these people.

So it's really more that you are jealous that they were able to take advantage of a situation and outperform you economically. As I said above you have no idea if this will affect their life, they could have any myriad of issues that are out of their control.
The funny part here is the click bait artist have kept their jobs, the majority of the layoffs were the worker ants that didn't make a ton of money and won't have an easy time finding a landing spot.
I could care less about ESPN and their business model has too much pork in today's environment but being happy someone got fired because they said bad things about your college basketball team is petty and sad.

With all the BS liberal politics on the channel, I only watch it if Duke is on. I don't necessarily mind politics on sports stations, but when they allow one side to say what they want and then fire or suspend the other side for their comments, I can't support that.
Not sure where any of my comments were directed at you until you responded to me. Read through Page 1 of this thread, the entire theme is people being happy that they were fired. Those were who my initial response was directed to. I'm not saying you should say a prayer for anyone's kids tonight but if you are happy that these people got fired then yes you are petty and sad.
Have no problem or remorse about individual(s) losing their job(s) when they consistently and unfairly attack something as sacred to me as Duke and its players.

Seriously though, I get your point, let's not gawk and point at others' misfortunes. I'm saying that very few of these layoffs are about misfortune and more about cutting so so talent. It's not bad luck that Len Elmore lost his spot, it's that he didn't add that much value to ESPN in the eyes of his bosses. I'm not throwing a party or anything, but I will indeed poke fun at the overpaid who got canned. I wouldn't say it to his face or anything.
ESPN "analysts" are constantly critiquing teams/coaches/gm's & calling for sports figures heads(Beadle on Grayson). So yes, some people didn't mind seeing the tables turned yesterday. Thing is, none of the major gasbags were let go.
Regarding that last bit I put in bold there, I'm not going to say that's b/c you're a coward or anything; it's b/c you're a decent human being, and when it's a flesh-and-blood person in front of you, you recognize that and don't take glee in their suffering.
I'm w/ Last Waltz on this, but I will acknowledge that this is "sports hate," not actual hate-hate. It's just like we don't want Brice Johnson to suffer tragedy in his life, but we loooooved seeing him cry after Jenkins' shot. We "hate" what someone represents, not who they actually are as a human being. The Internet has made that an even bigger thing.
If you didn't go there, there's no reason for you to get defensive. It's pretty undeniable that a lot of people did go there, though, and not only is calling people out on it appropriate labeling rather than name-calling, it's a more valid version of what those people were doing criticizing ESPN personalities too severely.
