Will be announced at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl game. The award goes to the best defensive player in the nation. Kash has already received the Gatorade Player of the Year award and the Paul Hornung Award.

Outstanding talent, already in elite company. To have one of our commits, from our home-state especially, to be recognized as one of the top 6 defensive players in the country, in the eyes of the Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee, is amazing.

Congratulations to the kid for having the opportunity to be in the position. I can't wait to see him at Kentucky. [cheers]

Also, my mistake, awards will be given at the award show a day before the game.

I'm starting to think Kash may be hard to keep off the field next season.

Doubt it. We burned redshirts for guys who weren't ready this year (Jones, Allen, Brown) plus we add Love and Laster, plus we have Firios, Walker, and interchangeable guys like Hatcher, Ware, and Bell . With all them returning, it would seem like redshirting would be a great option for Kash. By all means, if he kills it in practice and earns a starting spot, give it to him. Anything less, however, and I think we save him for the future.

Jmo. Also assuming Firios and Walker come back strong from injury.

I'm also starting to think the Kentucky Gatorade POY, Paul Hornung Award winner and 247SportsComposite 3 star, wait what? will be hard to keep off the field. Especially at ILB where the NT, and ILBs are the most important positions in that scheme. Note, he is the only 247SportsComposite 3 star on that list, IJS.

Wonder how much the high school class, competition etc....factors into the rankings. As I understand it, Male, Trinity, St X and Lexington Catholic are some of the big programs up there.

There are very few. You named a couple. Lafayette may be the only other to add to the list. If it was factored, it was counted as a negative against him, because he played at a small school. I'm gonna go off a limb and say that the committee is basing it off of different things, like defensive instincts, how quickly he can read and react, so on and so forth, rather than physically blasting other players, as far as this award goes.
Rankings for things like 247sports, Rivals, and Scout seem to be more geared towards camp showings, with some of the evaluating coming from game film.

Agree completely. Redshirts were burned, but that was entirely because we needed more depth. I don't see that story changing. We need depth, and if players are talented like this, they'll play immediately, regardless of youth. The plus with Kash Daniel is already being pretty physically developed. May go into next season weighing 240#, which is a solid weight for an ILB with his speed. Immediate impact, imo. At a very important position like you said.

I also wanted to ask, where do the coaches have KG taking reps? I think he would be outstanding on our d-line. Lengthy, big bodied, big frame, good athlete, could generate a pass rush from one of the 3 players on the line.

I agree he might be able to start, but like had been said, KY high school is not D-1 college let alone SEC.

If he comes in and dominates, he should start.

He was told to come back at 270 and compete for a starting spot at WDE next year, excited about that! Obviously for Kash, in a 'practical' situation, there would be an adjustment to the speed and strength of the caliber of OL that he has to shed to get to the ball and skilled players he has to cover. There is a strong possibility however that the OL coaching staff will have to use as a barometer may consist of top athletes right out of HS as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see him getting some reps during the season at ILB in important game time situations and ST. Trust me, CMS and staff will not want to use a RS on a talented player like Kash that if he develops, may not be there more than 3 years.

Awesome news! Your son's a terrific talent. Excited to see him make his way onto the field.

You're right about Kash though. There's always gonna be that adjustment for young players. He's not going to come in and dominate from the first snap, but if he can contribute immediately to slowing down the run, then he'll have to see time on the field.

Now this does seem to beg the question of Rivals why he is just a 3-star recruit ranked 15th in the nation at his position.

Apparently, I need to watch Kash's footage. I'm not familiar with the awards listed so research it is. Excellent posts.

That's where my issue came from. Made me question the importance or relevance of his awards. Might just be a hiccup from Rivals or compensating for KY competition. Either way, he's starting to sound like a much more impressive commit than I first thought.

Really a great honor to even be considered, and he must have really impressed some people since he undoubtedly got downgraded because of the level of competition.

(If) he wins the award. Anyone think he'll get bumped up to 4 star by the rest of the services?

It may help, but it is more important for him to play "lights out" at the AAA Bowl & during the practices. I suspect that he is going to shine and catch a lot of observers off guard.

Glad to here that...believe he can be a very good DE..We are very thin on the dline, and i would love for daniels and bell to take over that spot... I really believe he has the talent to be a jarmon at that position..
Believe bell has great upside at that position as well!! His length and quickness could give us a much needed passrush from that position..

(Daniels) Tell him not to stop at 270#. I want to see him at 290# with 4.5 speed and about a 500# bench press to go along with a 1000# squat.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:....
Happy new year to you and your family, and thank you for your son's committment and hard work.. I believe we are building a very good football team...

Not having seen Kash play except highlight videos, does he have the speed to be a legit All SEC type of lber? No doubt he has the size, strength, and nastiness to be a very physical player along with strong leadership traits, but get him in space, can he make tackles against SEC players?

Kash is a true talent and I think he plays right away next year...he is that good no matter what division he played in KENTUCKY. I know he is slotted for defense next year , but I hope the coaches make use of KD in the wildcat next year with JH as a blocker!!!!

Got to watch the kid play a couple of times this past season and he is a playmaker. He will lead the SEC in tackles a couple of seasons before its over(or at least be around the leaders) Reminds me of a lot of Trevathon out there making tackles.. I like him better than Lemar Dawson coming out of highschool.

Correct Brown was a RS.....the LB position is getting LOADED and I love it.

If KD gets to 270 with his athletic ability....WOO!

I could see him getting to about 240 or 245 before next season, which is really solid for an inside linebacker, especially for a true freshman. If he can maintain that 4.65 speed at 270# as an inside linebacker, that's a game-changer.

I get those questioning Kash due to the competition he played against, which was bad. However he has always brought it against top competition, weather it was the rivals camp last Spring when he first made his name, or South Carolina's summer camp where he was dominant and picked off a pass from their incomming 4* QB, or the Army AA practice this week.

Kid is the real freaking deal, not the overblown product of dominating awful E. Ky competition.

Clearly, it was not UK fans or KY HS coaches that made him an AAA. Someone else must have confirmed his value.

My bad I was thinking of KD Kengera Daniel getting to 270 as he dad was saying the staff wants him to hit.....Kash at 270 and not losing speed would be scary.

Ah. Pretty sure Kengera goes by KG (which is now convenient for everybody).
His dad did say that KG is working as a WDE now, and the coaching staff wants him to get to 270#. Kash will likely be able to get to about 255 without losing much speed, which is perfect.
