KB's post from GP:

Henry, you have to realize that most of these yahoos wanted Coach Croom to fail simply because he is black. That's it. That's why most of these yahoos never got on board when he was hired. They couldn't stand the fact that they had a black head coach, and they have never supported him.

Of course if anyone else would have said that they wanted him to succeed solely because he was black and it would have looked good for us would have been banned by jortboy.

The board that has been continually filled with griping that posting messages that are honest about how bad we've been will hurt recruiting now has a post containing a sentiment that actually COULD damage the perception of MSU. Honestly, I don't know a single MSU fan that disliked Croom because he was black. It was never an issue. As a matter of fact, most seemed to be like me: I wanted to see Coach Croom succeed more than any coach, from a personal standpoint. Amazing.

then he will land on his feet as a successful head coach elsewhere. Only time will tell.

HOWEVER, the vast majority wanted Croom to succeed simply because he was MSU's coach. Most people are willing to look past any prejudice to see their favorite team succeed. IF someone was that racist why would they even want our team to win since the vast majority of players are black?

If they were that racist, they wouldn't follow college football period. In my opinion, race was wayyyyyy down the list of why he was unpopular. If Croom had been able to develop some sort of offense, he would have won and he would be here right now.

ok KB, why did Croom fail at State?

1. Were the crowds not there at games?
2. Was money not there for facilities?
3. Was the salary not there for good coaches?
4. Was the administration not behind him?

5. Or was it the fact he was 21-38 with embarrassing losses to non-SEC schools? 10-30 in the SEC should get anybody fired, but only 11-8 against much easier non-conference competition that includes D-1 AA schools?

Croom had the support necessary and had he fulfilled the job requirement of winning games and building a program- he'd still be here.

that Croom`s resume wouldn`t have even gotten a white coach an interview. If we felt compelled to hire a black caoch we should have done a search and hired the most qualified black coach we could find.

And if he wasn't black I wouldn't have gotten my hopes up that he would be very successful. See the reverse is just as true as what KB21 said.

The fact is Croom wasn't the black Bear- he was the black Felker.

I just can't believe that one of our fans used the race card on us as a fanbase. I would have maybe expected this from the media, but even Mark May and Lou Holtz weren't this dumb.

I could go through EVERY single game this year, and list something utterly ridiculous that happened that was a HC decision. I wanted Croom to succeed because that was in OUR best interest. He didn't and Byrne did what he had to do. Much of Croom's failure was because of his decisions, not because he wasn't supported.

......all the reasons in the world why he thinks I never liked Croom, and for most of them I'd just ignore what he says. But if he ever tried to accuse me, to my face, of not liking Croom for racist reasons, then I'd kick the **** out of him. That's one accusation I won't tolerate. I've had black friends my whole life, still have black friends to this day, and their skin color and ethnic background don't make a damn bit of difference to me. I never liked Croom because we hired a POSITION COACH who had been away from the college game for 17 years. Dan Mullen is the complete opposite. I don't know if Mullen will be anymore successful either, but I believe we have a better chance with him.

KB21's name is Keith and he doesn't talk the same line of **** in person.

He just likes stirring stuff up for some reason on the boards.

His name is Keith Box. If you're going to throw it out there, make it count.

He was so wrapped up in the Polk matter I think when he saw the way Croom was coaching he pulled a switch. He prolly tells himself he was stirring us up on purpose all this time. We know the truth is he has so much Polk jism on his face he can't be recognized by his own.

I think he really is this dumb. He may agree with you and your friends to be kosher, but that's about it.
