I am glad to see they are recruiting right away, I thought we could of made the hire a lot earlier and been recruiting or laying the ground work earlier.

I'm very interested to see what guys Payne is able to bring in for next season. Of course I'm really looking forward to the next few seasons when he won't have any NCAA sanctions hindering him either. I hope he really is as good of a recruiter as they say.

I don't usually get into the recruiting circles but my son does. Interesting thing he told me just a little while ago.
Skyy Clark commited to UK back in 2020. He's a 5 star I believe, but decommited about 2 weeks ago
Even more interesting is that it was Kenny Payne who recruited him while he was still at UK.
Hope this info is right, but if it isn't,blame my son.

So many ups and downs with recruiting I don't follow it normally.

But with a new HC and a roster kind of a mess, I am going to try to keep up this summer.

Will mostly rely on other posters my friend texted me this link thought I'd share it.

He’s asked for his release from his LOI to reopen his recruitment. Haven’t heard whether the yuts have granted it or not.

Off topic but do you think if Coach Payne is successful this gets us closer to being a Nike school?Coach Payne bought up Phil Knight and I am sure he still has strong ties with Nike.We should have cut bait with Adidas when we fired Rick and forfeited our Championship.

I think it will still be tough to land kids this year. Even though I don’t think they will get a ban the majority think they will. It is a tough sell to elite and transfers. We will have to see how it plays out.

UofL will not be a Nike school anytime soon, if at all. UofL has a great relationship with Adidas.

This next few weeks and months should tell us a great deal about how influential KP is with these 5 Star kids and their families. Just getting one to commit can attract others to follow.

Clark asked for a release from his LOI on March 6th. Not sure if uk has granted the release yet.

It really doesn’t matter if they give it to him or not. He can transfer without penalty. UK won’t want the PR hit and lose him anyway.

As usual, over on raftards they’re now saying that he isn’t any good and good riddance. If there wasn’t a paper trail, those imbeciles would probably say that he didn’t even have a “committable offer”.

If you can, try and pay attention to the Kamari Lands and Skyy Clark relationship. Lands is in his ear.
I also heard Lands is trying to get him to UofL.

Another name to watch is assistant Joel Justus at Arizona State. Heard he recruited Clark while he was at UK as well. And it's a chance he could join KP's coaching staff.

Clark also has a younger brother a year younger than Skyy who has an offer already from Kansas.

Yep sounds about right! Or it’s “he wasn’t good enough to play for uk”, “he couldn’t handle playing at uk”, or “he wanted to play for uk but there’s someone better and he didn’t want to compete for minutes“!

I saw a report out of Sports Illustrated that we offered Clark. Can anybody confirm that this is true? This is the second highest rated player still on the board and he's a point guard😋

College free agency will make for a interesting spring. Who knows but building a roster is going to become the new thing. It is going to be a minefield.

One thing that is clear teams have to have talent that is willing to be unselfish. With the roster constantly turning it is going to be tough.

I believe I saw something somewhere like this I just cannot recall where. It's probably true. Maybe too late for Kenny to pull something but any high end player has little to no competition for playing time here next year so maybe Kenny can make some magic happen?

Not sure if you saw my post earlier in this thread, but it was KP that recruited this kid to uk two years ago,so there's a crack for sure. We'll see...

Teams with solid “role” players and ONE “Bell Cow” used to make a lot of waves.

Villanova with Howard Porter
WKU an Jim McDanials
Jacksonville and Artis Gilmore
Michigan State and Magic
Indiana St Larry Bird

This may come back if ego rules.

Then hope the role players don’t get the idea they are more than support staff.

This portal thing is going to take a lot of fan “passion” away.

The college basketball fan is marginal at best. Fandom is tied to success. We really liked players staying because it led to success. If roster turnover is managed and success is consistently achieved fans will stay passionate.

I’m not so sure. I suppose it all boils down to what you consider success. Plenty of wins down the road in the cow era but, a substantial portion of their fans want him gone yesterday.

Lots of reasons for this of course. First off - as a fan base they are clinically and collectively - insane. With that said, at least a substantial portion of their unhappiness is the lack of meaningful season ending achievement to go along with all of the constant roster churn. They were definitely enamored with all of the burger boy recruiting hype early but again, that has worn off for a substantial part of their fan base. I think in particular because they feel as though cow and his recruits, don’t really give a **** about the program and instead have turned it into a glorified G league team.

I must confess that listening to Payne’s initial presser, he used some of the same types of buzzwords that cow uses - which I suppose is not all that unexpected. I’m all for student athletes living their individual dreams and personally succeeding, just don’t want that to be at the expense of the program. It is a delicate balancing act between being a “players first coach” and figuring out how to successfully blend that into the larger picture of what drives the university and its fans so that all parties feel like they are valued.

Hope KP is more successful at this than sweaty cow has been.

And this is it in a nutshell. It's all about getting the right blend of players that have but one common goal. You have to bring talented guys into the mix,but yeah it doesn't have to be all burger boys.

The Skye report is the first, of what may be a good indication of just how powerful the KP hiring is to this UL BB program. Clark may or may not sign with UL, but his consideration is a long time coming for the rebuilding of our Men’s BB a tradition.
