I'd rather listen to Maynard James Keenan, Danny Carey, Adam Jones, and Justin Chancellor.
I've never seen much artistry in Rap, musically or otherwise. Guess I'm just old. However, the ho's do love it.....
Oh...and this mumble rap. I mean really how much talent does that require?
"That's just like your opinion, man".

Personally I love this idea Ever scene Zion chose Duke it became the "cool" school. Right now there isn't a player out there who can do that for us. Its a new age for college sports.

Lil Wayne did have one of the best 25 years. And I do still think he'd be a draw.. but, he hasn't made much music the last 5 years, and his PEAK was really back during Cals first few years, probably 2011ish.

Don't be surprised if these 18 year olds don't have Lil Wayne in their top played artists..

Yikes. Talk about a way to say I’m an old white dude without saying I’m an old white dude lol. Don’t think Cal cares about your alls immense hatred for rap or is recruiting you all so that’s good for the program. This is no doubt good for the program and y’all need to stop being geriatric haters

Lol ok I’ve had enough of the posters shitting on rap like it’s below whatever genre they listen to. Rappers have more extensive vocabulary, more complex rhyme schemes, and more influence on culture than any other genre. You don’t have to like it, but I won’t let you get away with talking like it’s a lower art form.

I’m not a huge rap fan but I am a musician and you’re spot on. Anyone saying rap artists aren’t musicians don’t know **** about performing/creating music on any level IMO.

Personal taste is one thing and everyone has their own but saying rap isn’t valid is dumb. Hell nothing touches Beethoven on a “musicality” level, doesn’t mean all music past the 1800’s sucks.

I can enjoy most of the sub-genres of rap (even at the age of 49).

I'm also warming up to the newer splashes of hip hop in country.

It's the gangsta rap (not the older 90s Snoop and Dre and Q-tip styles, but the newer murderous garbage full of "b*tch" and "N****" this, that, and the "F**K all ya'll" stupidity) and rap with poor grammar and stupid lyrics I simply can't stomach.

Matt Jones and others talk about “cool school”, this type of stuff would be big for that. Selfishly as a 30 year old fan of that type of music, you couldn’t name a bigger 3 for me personally.
The only other one I’d throw in there is Jack Harlow. JMO.

My issues with rap these days are it's dudes in skinny jeans that sound castrated and voices run through Mumbler 3000 robotic voice machine. But my biggest issue is substance. I don't hear anything in the lyrics. Maybe I'm just old, but I don't hear the substance and poetry that Pac and Biggie had. Maybe these new guys do too, but I never hear it on the stuff I hear on the radio. I'm just not big into 'b*tches and whips' crap. Or 5'4" 135lbs dudes talking about being hard.

I absolutely hate rap, but then again I'm almost 60....

I realize of course that recruits like this stuff, so cool, whatever it takes I suppose.
I agree. I don't care for rap myself, but if the players like it and it gets recruits, then go for it. The isn't about what I like, its about Wildcat basketball and getting the best possible players for our team.

GO CATS!!!

I don’t listen to the radio so idk what you’re talking about. And the mumble rap thing is a myth propagated by people who don’t understand accents because they’ve never traveled further than two counties over from where they live.

Only 2 of those have had a 25 year career. And “units sold” does not account for mixtapes. Lil Wayne chose to give away at least 50% of his music for free, probably more than. And it’s not like they were throw-aways, everyone knows he had the most legendary mixtape run of all time. Also doesn’t include his sales as a featured artist, if it did, he would be hundreds of millions ahead of Eminem and Jay-Z. A Lil Wayne feature from ‘07-‘12 all but guaranteed a Top 10 hit for an artist.
To be fair Eminem on a feature back then and now will almost guarantee a number one hit. Even the songs with Wayne on them Em is the feature.

Gucci Mane is the only other who can even be mentioned in the same sentence. Respect to Chamillionaire the “Mixtape Messiah” though.
Chamillionaire is 🔥 , Drake had some fire mixtapes before he was super big too.

Then, yes. Now, no. I don’t really listen to any new Eminem but the last feature I remember was one pretty recently with Kid Cudi. Eminem’s verse was asscheeks and was not well received in the mainstream.

His new stuff is fire, Music to be murdered by is one of his best albums IMO. I’ve heard a lot of his features the past 3-4 years that have been well received by reviewers on YouTube that I follow at least.

Not a fan of the new stuff, 50 year olds rapping is kinda lame. And I’m sure most can tell I’m a big Wayne fan, but now that he’s 40 I’m not really going to be checking for his new stuff. Young up and coming rappers are the ones who really come with the heat.

As for Eminem’s old stuff, I feel the same way how I feel about South Park. Like I still enjoy Em’s old music when I listen to it and South Park would still make me laugh, but that content just doesn’t hit the same as when I was in Middle school when it was part of the counter culture that would shock your parents.

I think Em has gotten better with time, flow and rhymes, speed and writing. I don’t know who’s good anymore, most every new rapper I’ve heard is mumble junk.
