People criticizing the coaching is not bashing dude. You’re trying too hard to defend bad coaching. Pope is a great coach and he will be better after this one. It’s early
Folks criticizing last year is bashing and frankly cheap shooting. You really have to cram your head where the sun don’t shine to call that year bad. Even tonight, Pope didn’t commit those turn overs. Pope didn’t miss a single free throw.

Legitimate criticizing, I agree. Evaluating performance totally out of context is bush league nonsense. No different than a hack talking head starving for hits.

Why would roster construction be a Mitch problem?

He has to have his hands in this somehow. Any AD would honestly. Maybe not the same as say an NFL GM.. but I still think a lot of decisions are ultimately stamped by the AD. Could be wrong though.

But IMO, Mitch has to go before Pope... or, if this went south, they both go together.

My opinion as well. We took it on the head in the first half and fought back, same in the second half. Down 20 with 12 left and we still had our chances down the stretch. We showed fight and we showed we are capable to have big runs against good competition.

Louisville played their A game and we played C basketball and were still in the game at their house and had a chance to pull the miracle comeback. I’m not worried about our team at all. It’s going to be all about lineups and the rotation moving forward for me, we get that in line and we will have a chance in March.
A lot of teams lose this game by 20+ after getting down the way we did.
Our guys stayed strong and got it down to 4, from there, they made a lot of mistakes.
There is soooo much to fix and we know Pope will fix it.
I'm disappointed in Lowe, Garrison and Oweh, they have to be better than this.
Chandler and Aberdeen were great.

I think Pope let them run to much this early in the season. It favored UL as I think Pope’s offense looked pretty vanilla mixed with a lot of me ball. UK needs to decide in order to win they need to be the most physical team on the court. This is the 2nd time they let the other team be more physical than them.

Uhh but we didn't compete all game but just the end of first half and near the end of game. You just can't do that against good teams and expect to win.
You get off on negativity so I have no use for you. Cry on, I wont give you the response your agenda craves.

To be fair, I didn’t say a single critical word about last year. Pope coached his tail off last year. He’s gonna need to learn how to adjust to a different type of roster. He’s used to pace and space —- and I love that style, but you have to be able to acknowledge when the team across from you is better fit for that style than your team. 90% of the teams we play will get smoked by us playing fast, but teams like Louisville, Alabama, etc will bury us playing that way.

I see the over-reactions from the RR geniuses is well underway.
Funny you think it’s an over reaction. But pretty obvious you don’t understand what you’re watching and won’t until you see Louisville play a good team. Kentucky won in almost every stat except they had 14 turnovers to their 6. ( good def vs bad defense). 4 steals to their 11. 4 steals ain’t gonna get it done. I would also
Mention that they got 31 Ft’s to kentuckys 16. Sure it’s a homer whistle and 6 Of those were in garbage time but they can’t stop the ball and until they do it’s gonna be free throw city. . We can’t guard the three. Can’t stop the drive. BAD DEFENSE. We also shot better than they did in the paint and outside but they got up 40 shots and a lot were uncontested looks. They should have hit more. Kentucky got up 36 and 6 were uncontested. Those were mostly hero looks. Chandler and Aberdeen taking Steph curry threes and saving the rest of the team. . Offense looked like old calipari offense. Stuck. No movement. But **** all that. Let me ask you a question. DID WE WIN?

I would think his job would be to raise the money and let Pope figure out who he wants.

You guys amaze me. This was just one of those games. Reading the box score you'd think UK won the game except a huge free throw discrepancy.

At any rate, this game means little. Make free throws even or give us the advantage and we win despite not playing anywhere near our best. UL on the other hand, they played pretty close to as good as they can play.

We're fine for this point in the season.

And you have your head up your butt if you think last year wasn’t a success given the circumstances. Sorry, that’s just the facts. Tonight’s game wasn’t as bad as it appeared. Don’t turn the ball over, Make a few free throws and this is a different outcome.

Bash and trash all you want. Quit on the cats as you appear to have done. We have the ingredients for a good team.
I haven’t given up on ****. I’m just pushing back on the weirdos acting like last year was a great accomplishment. It was a passing grade, acknowledging the context. We aren’t winning **** if you view last year as an amazing feat.

Thats what an AD/GM should be doing. But as we all know in sports.. many GMs stick their nose too far into the process.

I also think, when your the AD of Tubby, then Gillespie, then Cal, then Pope.. and all you have is one title to show for it, then the blame has to shift upwards. A head coach can fire an assistant/coordinator or two, but then hes next. Kind of the same here. Something to me just sort of feels antiquated with Mitch at times. And hes been here for almost 25 years I think. Might be time.

Donovan Dent was option #1 at point guard. We got Lowe.
Lamar Wilkerson was option #1 at shooting guard. We got Kam Williams.
Caleb Wilson was option #1 at power forward. We got Mo D.

The reality is that our coaching staff paid a shizz load of money for second options, and it showed tonight.
These were 3 giant misses. Just one of these would have made a huge difference, especially settling for mo d.

Feels like our NIL situation is a big lie and somebody is all talk. We missed on recruits because we didn’t pay them. Idc what nobody says.

Its either that, or we keep thinking our brand is bigger than it is for these recruits. I get the sense that we dont want to hand out the big pay day for ANY recruit.. almost thinking that our legacy will cover the rest

Honestly we saw this with the coaching hire.

It was a good year. Only folks I know saying is wasn't are fans from opposing teams or sad sack fans that can't put anything in context.

“Good” is different from how you all are presenting it. I completely agree I had no problem bringing pope back, especially considering the context. You all are acting like he’s the ****** messiah after last year.

Kind of feels like he thinks he’s still recruiting for BYU and not Kentucky. Like he’s still trying to drive a Camry, but he’s sitting in a Lamborghini.
I think he wants to build a team like his 96 team that's super deep and wears down opponents. Me personally, I'll wait to see how this year goes before judging if his strategy is working or not. It felt like we were wearing Louisville down towards the end. We had just dug ourselves too deep of a hole with stupid turnovers and made crucial mistakes at the end. I think this team can still be a final 4 team. But Pope has to figure out the right player combinations and stop the turnovers. Hopefully this team will gel more offensively as the season progresses. We will see.

We have the players to make noise but it will be up to the Staff to shorten the rotation to allow that.

Umm we were up 22-19 with 11:35 left in first half. We had a 7 minute bad stretch where they out scored us by 21 pts. Then we clawed back to 7 at the half the remaining 5 minutes. So we competed 13 minutes the first half.

second half we sucked the first 8 minutes and got down 20. Then competed the final 12, dominating 8 of those minutes. So in a nutshell we played poorly for 15 minutes and that lost us the game. Too many TOs, but to say we only competed the end of the first half and near end of game is comical. We were winning the first half of the first half and we made our run 12:30 to go in the second.

We had our chance to win tonight even with as bad as those stretches were, that speaks volumes if you ask me.

Best post of this entire thread. As bad as we were at times we continued to fight hard and had a legitimate chance to steal it away. Must teams wouldn’t have done that, we know our weaknesses and what we need to work on. This only makes us better as the season progresses.

It was a good year considering the situation and timing. It wasn’t good if we are gonna hold it to the standard. We got blown out by Tennessee a team we beat two times already.

Did a bunch of good things last year but it wasn’t anything amazing.

That’s why I’m wondering why does he wait to start pressing and using the (depth) of this team to his advantage before he is down twenty on the road??

So it was a moral victory.
