Their best 2 player shot 6/28 and Kentucky still lost. That’s not a good sign at all. The season ain’t over but Kentucky got exposed some tonight
Yeah I mentioned this earlier in the thread but I watched a lot of BYU games after the Pope hire, and the difference in sharpness how they ran this offense last year and we do this year is pretty stark. We have more talent, but their actions were way crisper than what we've seen from this team.

Played like dog shizz and still almost beat a top 30 team on the road.

I can see this kind of game happening a bunch in conference play. We just don't have a bunch of guys that can create their own offense. Teams will be overly physical with us to disrupt our offense and we're going to have to find ways to get baskets.
We lost a road game to a good Kenpom rated team. It happens.

Announcers talk how physical the game was, yet Clemson gets called for 7 fouls over the last 30 minutes of the game. One with 15 seconds left.

I still love my team and love Coach Pope . These guys needed to be woke up and realize that lackluster play isn’t going to win you many games!
Why do you want another SEC team to lose. It isn't going to change what happened tonight.

The reality is we got a bunch of mid major guys that were there for a reason. They are damn good players but not as athletic as the traditional P4 player. With that said Pope did seem to be a little discombobulated tonight.
Rotation was tightened up and fatigue seemed to be in play. Very little changes to offense to run action to get guys open. Minimal changes to defense. Insisting on running offense through Williams who thinks he is a good ball handler. Ball sticking in Carrs and Williams hands.
This is going to be what they see consistently through the SEC and I don’t think Carr and Williams are tough enough to make a deep run.
The guys need to see how even ESPN was giddy over the loss. They better learn pretty damn quick their toughness will be challenged every game from here on out.
May be time to see if one of the young kids can be an alternative to Kriisa.
I’m feeling that I need to temper my expectations with this team. I just don’t see that we have that one guy that can score one on one to create those gaps and power plays. I thought we played with good defensive effort but poor defensive IQ.
We played bad everywhere, but the game was mostly lost on the glass. Our bigs are doing way too much ball watching
bad on threes, bad on rebounds, Carr sucked, Kerr sucked, is what it is, learn from it
Obviously I don’t want be the only SEC team to lose in this challenge
I hope we get that fixed. How many times in the Cal era did bad FT shooting bite us like it did tonight.
We are going to be in a TON of close games in SEC play.

You may be right and we may be soft as a team overall, but I think we’re just not that athletic and quick enough to be effectively aggressive on both offense and defense. We are a finesse team.
Tbf we had the hardest game of the first night by far. Not sure how UT got matched up with Syracuse.
Not gonna lie. Felt like a Cal Era loss. And that's what sucks the most about this.
Clemson has been underrated this year so far IMO and have been hanging outside on the bubble for awhile. I wish we played better tonight, but these types of nights can happen. That was a real good first test for the Cats this year and I'm glad we played as close as we did. Hope we can learn from these mistakes as the season continues and I hope we can sneak out a win on Saturday night!
I still prefer Pope.. but my problem with THIS years team as opposed to Cal teams.. is that Cal teams still have the talent that can beat any team, as evidenced by beating Alabama last year.
Yes we beat Duke, but that's looking more like a 2nd half collapse By duke after watching these last few games.
It's Pope's first year, so we can't expect much, but this just isn't a very talented team. I know I keep saying it, but it's just glaringly obvious. They struggle with better teams DESPITE Pope's coaching and scheme.

I don't think Perry is near ready to compete at an SEC level, but I'm not sure he'd be worse than Kerr
You are correct. We did the same thing against G-St. We didn't wake up until Williams was damn near given whiplash.
If this Pope thing doesn't work out and we finally land coach Tom Crean, You will eat those words.
This team needs to toughen the hell up. Padded practices Need to commence.
His back down dribbling skills are atrocious. I cringe every time he dribbles the ball.
