Horrible comparisons. All those teams added old, washed up players. The Warriors just added a guy who is only two years removed from winning an MVP to a 73 win team.Everyone thought this would lead to a title...

That 04 Lakers team Shaq and Kobe was were not old.

Nash was old. Howard is really good at having chiseled biceps. This is not the same thing as the Warriors.
Thry can pretty much have one guy being the ball up, shoot it as soon as he's past half court while leaving the rest of the team down on the other end and still have s chance to win. The shooting display next year will be s wondrous thing.

I have seen the other contracts (a few listed below). Barnes has been inconsistent for his whole career. When Curry got hurt last season Barnes' stats got worse, not better. He gets wide open shots due to teams overplaying Curry/Klay/Green and still misses a ton. I just don't think that he is close to a max contract player. The only thing that he brings is that he can also play the 4 if you want to go small.

Because part of the reason the Warriors lost was Barnes missing tons of wide open 3s and being a general liability on offense. The Cavs basically sold out on guarding Klay and Steph and decided to make Barnes and Draymond have to beat them. Replace Barnes with Durant in the Finals and the Warriors win.
Does that mean they win it this year? Of course not, but Durant brings so much more to the table than Barnes

Also, Durant is not just going to jack up 3 pointers. He's not just going to jump shoot. He's ridiculously talented in all facets of offense. He will be able to drive and kick out to open shooters very often, which will result in the defense not being able to collapse like they did with OKC, letting him drive and dunk. Offensively GS will be absolutely ridiculous next year.
GS also dismantled probably the only team (that doesn't have Lebron James) that would have been a threat to them next year.

I think a lot of people do not understand just how underrated Durant is defensively. He disrupts passing lanes and can guard multiple positions with his height, long arms, and athleticism.
Maybe. I'm not comparing anything to Durant because losing him will hurt, but there is the possibility that Westbrook will be even more dominate without having to hand the ball off for someone half the time.
Also trading Ibaka for Oladipo helped soften the blow on Durant already. Of douse it isn't the same caliber player but Oladipo is certainly a contributor and a better matchup on Klay/Curry while Wesbrook matches up with the other.
Then you have Steven Adams and others in the post that destroyed GS already which will not change.
So it could still be interesting. But to me what will be more fun to follow is the Twolves and how they grow together.

Never said they won't be better, but I'm not sold that we can just cancel the season and that no one can compete with them.
injuries happen. barring that, i don't see any team getting in the way of another cleveland vs golden state rematch.
I love the NBA and I love basketball but if I'm being honest, I don't have time to keep up with or care about so many teams. I would be fine if a bunch of top tier players just formed a handful of super teams. Like team USA level rosters. Leave the rest of the bottom feeder teams to fill up their rosters with whatever's left.

Exactly. People talking about Durant not getting shots, this or that. I would say if not every GM, 90% of them will tell you, Durant is a better player than Curry (even with Curry being 2 time MVP). With Durant on the roster, maybe Super Steph will tone down the bad shot selection and stupid hot dog turn overs. What people fail to talk about is a big reason for the Warrior near collapse against OKC and the loss in the finals, had a lot to do with Curry committing careless to's.
The 2 time MVP, first unanimous MVP selection, player who led his team to the best regular season record ever and is the greatest shooter of all time should probably tone down his poor shot selection.
I will go one better. If there is a GM alive who would take Curry over Durant (salary, etc. being equal), he is not qualified to be an NBA GM.

He hit 402 threes in a single season. There's no such thing as a "bad shot" for him.
Also worth noting that Klay Thompson's 276 made 3's last year was more than anyone in NBA history besides Curry.

You're right, Steph Curry's shot selection is why the Warriors just can't win big games. His coach and dad need to learn something about shooting and reign him in.
No. Shooting is a force multiplier as it opens up the floor. There is likely a slight exponential curve to adding shooters that can also beat close outs. What you are doing is making almost all shots marginally better, and getting rid of many bad shots in favor of better shots.
They thought they had it licked. All it took was:
- Max salaries.
- Curry's ankles leading him to sign an impossibly team friendly contract for his current output.
- Durant to be a free agent.
- Unprecedented cap raise due to a combination of record TV money influx and inability to agree on smoothing.
- GSW getting Green and Thompson to sign for slightly less than their max contracts.
- Injuries perhaps preventing the Thunder from winning a title (or at least making another Finals) for 4 years.
- Having a 73 win GSW team in the way of the first healthy Thunder team in years.
- GSW overcoming a 3-1 series deficit, including trailing by 7 with 6 minutes left in OKC.
- GSW losing a 3-1 lead in the Finals, in part because Draymond is a habitual nut puncher.
Yup. I'd add that Durant was a defensive beast in the playoffs, which means he has that gear. Will this team win 73? Probably not (depth, regression in close games, emphasis on rest). But it will have a much higher gear in the playoffs.
"could not" has a meaning that you don't seem to grasp. GSW lost a game 7 by like 4 points. That is not evidence that they "could not" beat the Cavs, anymore than GSW's dominance of the Cavs when fully healthy (last 3 games of last year's Finals, both regular season matchups, and first 4 games of 2016 Finals) were not conclusive evidence that the Cavs "could not" beat the Warriors. Warriors are solid favorites this year if healthy.
You could argue Siva for 4 over Wall for one, but Siva for 4 over Wall, then Knight, then Teague, and then Ryan Harrow, it's no contest. That's 3 good years of Siva vs. 3 great years.
