When has Williams ever really given us depth? 90% of his career has been spent in rehab. Good luck to the young man, but I never expected to see him last more than a few games before reinjuring something. We are THIN at DT. Period. Thanks Hank Hughes! That may be, but we really could use the depth.
We definitely want Kevin Williams wearing a red jersey this year. Hope he sticks with Nebraska.
On another note, I can't believe how badly our staff had bungled the DT position. It goes beyond one former assistant not pulling his weight.
I did not say I did not want him back. Merely pointing out the obvious: he is very, very injury prone and most likely will always be. He has rarely provided us with reliable depth. We definitely want Kevin Williams wearing a red jersey this year. Hope he sticks with Nebraska.

Agreed. IfLosing Williams would be a major
blow. Regardless of depth the kid is talented and would have potentially started this year. At the least he would have been first man in.
disagree. You are forgetting we also went after juco transfers. Got zeroAgreed. Can't blame Hank Hughes entirely on this. Even if he does recruit a DL or two last year, they likely redshirt this next season...
GBR
Explanation?
The staff signed zero defensive tackle recruits in the 2016 class. It was a complete and total whiff at arguably one of the most important positions on the team. Also, if I remember correctly, only one DT prospect even officially visited Lincoln last year (4-star Jordan Elliott). And we weren't a factor when he opened up his recruitment late in the year.
I fully understand the situation with Collins and Valentine left some holes for 2016, but the lack of signees will be felt in 2017 and beyond. Outside of Maurice and Williams (seniors), we have a collection of guys that have a combined two tackles worth of playing experience. I grant there are some intriguing young prospects who will now be thrust into the starting lineup, but counting on these guys to anchor the defensive line is either a risky plan or it's a lack of a plan altogether. What happens if somebody gets hurt, transfers, or doesn't live up to expectations. The margin of error seems awfully thin.
I think they should recruit two defensive tackles every year. Had they signed two in 2016, they could redshirt this season and possibly contribute in 2017 if something doesn't pan out with the aforementioned players.
Who are the top Juco DT this year? Will it be a good class?Glad Parella is chasing hard after a Juco DT
I would say this is why we need to MOVE the ball and keep this thin defense off the field. As long as we control the ball I don't care if it's run or pass. This is why we need to run the ball and keep this thin defense off the field

Now if Tommy is 2015 Tommy and not new and improved, then we need to run.

Another top priority for our new Dline coach is to get production out of McMullen and at minimum keep Williams around for depth purposes. If both aren't on the roster next year that doesn't reflect well on him.
Well, our defensive lineman haven't exactly made the most intelligent decisions lately. I wouldn't say it reflects badly on Parrella.Another top priority for our new Dline coach is to get production out of McMullen and at minimum keep Williams around for depth purposes. Williams gone.
Williams gone.
Really doesn't look like he was going to make the 2-deep, perhaps not even the three deep. That sucks for depth. But the fact that he's a senior and it's even in the discussion for him to get beaten out for a job like that tells you most of what you need to know about his career.
