Kevin Wilson: As exciting as Kevin Steele

Why is The MSU Universe excited about this Kevin? He sounds like a poor man's David Cutcliffe to me. Scoring points on such defensive juggernauts as Baylor and Mizzou while armed with the most naturally talented players shouldn't be exalted. It should be expected. How does that fit into Starkville. He won't have the Oklahoma brand. He won't have 5-star recruits. He won't have Bob Stoops. He won't that weak Big 12 schedule. He'll have 2 and 3 star players, a porous offensive line, and sharks like Nick Saban and Houston Nutt circling nearby. I know some people will defend Kevin Wilson and will want to give me the DustinDawg treatment. You'll give me the stories of Mark Richt and all the other assistant coaches who took over a SEC program and turned it into a winner... coaches like Mike Shula, Sylvester Croom, David Cutcliffe, Ed Orgeron, Brad Scott, Ron Zook, and Mike Archer .... oh wait. Some of you seem to have anointed Greg Byrne as the savior of this here football program. With a Wilson pick, Greg Byrne strikes me as disappointingly unimaginative. He's going after a guy that Southern Miss didn't even wind up picking. The Golden Eagles took Fedora, a guy who built a high-powered offense out of largely unheralded recruits. Maroon and White deserves a reason a cheer again. But I really worry that Wilson will be a spectacular letdown.

Not exactly a recruiting juggernaut either. He was hanging 50 on teams like Michigan (before they totally sucked).

If the guy could build a good offense at Northwestern, he can do it at MState.

Also, when did recruiting top players and then coaching them to execute offense to such a high level become a hinderance? MSU fans are an odd breed. We'd rather hire a guy like Dooley who goes 7-5 at LaTech or Hudspeth who doesn't know jack about coaching at this level than hire a guy who has been great everywhere he has been and the excuses include talent, USM, and him having the audacity to want to coach in the national title game.</p>
