knowing who is covering 2nd base on a steal is Little League stuff.

Called play that Frasier simply botched IMO. That was a common first and third play. Pirtle wasn't breaking to cover the bag -- he was breaking in front. Either Detz messed up the call(he either calls 4-4-4 and Pirtle cuts or he says nothing and it goes thru like a typical steal) or Frasier just flat out missed it. Detz did hamstring Frasier with his exact positioning on the throw though. Supposed to stay 1-1.5 steps left of the bag on the catcher's release and never break the plane of the ball unless/until the 4 call comes in from Detz...

Thanks for clarifying

although when you said Detz I assume you meant Pirtle. The announcers were talking like Pirtle screwed it up by getting in Frazier's way. But if that's a called play, then Frazier ought to catch it. We did a great job of responding with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning. Hopefully that mistake won't come back to bite us.

Nah, announcers just missed the playcall. And I meant Detz on it as I said. 3b becomes captain on the first and third plays. People don't realize that first and thirds are the single most complicated playcall in all of baseball from an infield coordination perspective. I'll go in-depth with it later if you are really interested... I know exactly how Polk(Raffo, Shoenrock, Shoop) and Bertman(Bianco, McDonnell) do them...

Only way it's Detz fault is if he called 4-4-4 too late(which is very possible given how the play transpired), that would make Frasier think Pirtle is cutting it, but Pirtle wouldn't hear it until it's to late, and thus Frasier won't be ready for the ball when Pirtle doesn't cut it.
