Kickoff returns

I know we had a couple good KO returns last night, but very seldom did LSU get beyond the 20. Jones kicked it deep or through the endzone almost every time (and so did their kicker).

Anybody know what the percentage of getting to or beyond the 25 is, in general? I think it's really low ... maybe 20%.

Why doesn't everybody just take the touchback unless they really see a hole opening up? It's obvious that in general they want to try a runback and usually don't succeed, best I can tell.

I think they generally got to about the around the 25+/-, and I was sort of keeping tabs. With 25 being the no return starting point.

But they also were at risk of fumbling,... returning the KO from 7/8 yards deep is not the best option.

If they caught the kick, they returned it, regardless of if they caught it at the goal line or 9 yards deep. I'd be ok with my returner bringing it out if it was only 3-4 yards in. Anything deeper I'd say knee it. I'll take the 25 as a starting spot all night long

I was sort of keeping tabs too after the first couple. They were short of the 25 at least 3 times. I've still got my recording and will try to get an accurate count. We didn't kick off much in the 2nd half ....

Kickoff stats:
1. LSU thru endzone; touchback
2. Caught 6 yards deep, ran to 23
3. Caught 6 yards deep, ran to 26 but flagged back to 12.5 for holding
4. Caught 5 yards deep, ran to 29
5. Caught 6 yards deep, ran to 23

Second half:
6. Caught 8 yards deep, ran to 21

So LSU only had 1 touchback; returned from endzone 5 times. 3 failed to get to 25, one got to 26 but was called back. 1 successfully got past the 25.

Of the 5 they ran back, only 1 (20%) was successful. 1 would have been but penalty negated it.

Second half
1. Caught 3 yards deep, run to 28.

Both our run attempts were beyond 25, and there were three touchbacks.

Haven't watched the rest of the game, but we didn't kick off any more.
