Really need to know by January 2nd before the portal opens and all the current players leave.

But before that, Florida has to announce in time for the portal to open, which will be before the Ole Miss playoff game. Wild but true.

if I was making him the highest paid coach. He would start right after thanksgiving

i think all of this is one massive troll job by kiffin. he isn't going anywhere. and when he tweets that out, OM fans will anoint him their god
Like everyone here I’m hoping he’s gone but this does seem a little too much to believe. Wouldn’t surprise me if ends up staying.

Coaches don’t hold press conferences when they leave a school. They usually just get on a plane and show up at their new school. You hold press conferences to say you’re staying.
the press conference would be from the LSU side, not the UM side. Every school holds a presser to announce a new coach. It's not like we didn't have 4 of them in the past 8 or so years.

Perhaps the funniest outcome is Kiffin announcing he is staying with all the media going wild followed by a Mississippi State egg bowl victory that knocks OM out of the playoff then kiffin leaving for the NFL in February

Just got confirmation from well connected sources that Lane was eating at Cane's yesterday. The deal is done. He was quoted as saying, 'who even eats gas station chicken?'.

Ole Miss has somehow avoided a WAOM moment in the past couple of years, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they gave him an ultimatum right before their team has a legit shot at the playoffs. State winning the Egg and Kiffin leaving would make for a hilarious Monday morning at work.
I want this to happen almost as much as I wanted that baseball national championship... almost.

Well, for those that missed it, Kiffin was just on The Pat McAfee Show stating that there is no ultimatum and that he loves it in Oxford.

For a while now, I’ve felt like that he was going to leave because the offers would probably be just too good to pass up but with all the things that have happened in the last couple days I think it’s all just a huge troll job and that he’s going to stay an Ole Miss is going to win the press conference. It almost seems too obvious that he’s playing everybody and his family is in on it which is just absolutely bizarre.

UM will get a nice return on their investment if he leaves. Buyout, $ 39.6 mil.

If true, I'd have to believe he's stuck at Ole Miss, which he might not mind. No upper tier SEC team would take another run at him after what he did at UT and then head faking LSU and FL. Ole Miss can't match LSU/FL offer and go all in for NIL.....LSU and FL can. If being consistently in the running for a natty with virtually unlimited resources are ranked high on his decision tree.....he gone.

There is always the chance the ex wife doesn’t really want to hang out in the same town where he had the younger girlfriend and run in to her. She might be pushing for a change of scenery if they are back together.

That's a level of trolling previously unheard of in college sports. I think he's just a weird dude who wants to move on, but feels bad about doing it. Being a weird guy, he can't just straight up lie and say all the things OM fans want to hear until he signs a new contract with LSU/UF. Also, it's impossible for him to just shut up and go radio silent while the negotiations are going and that leads to A LOT of mixed signals being sent out.

He REALLY wants to coach the Rebels in the CFP, but I don't see how his new school will allow that. So he's stringing things out. Throw in the rumors of Sark leaving Texas, and it equals a super awkward dude who is kind of flailing around while he tries to make up his mind. I wouldn't be surprised if he tries to wait and see if Texas opens up. So this could be drawn out long past the EB.

Did his family members actually travel to Gainseville and Baton Rouge? I know it was widely reported, but was there any confirmation?
If they really did, I can't see that being just a troll job. You don't hop on the private plane of a booster for another school and go on a joy ride just to troll everyone. You could wind up.in court over that.

OTOH, maybe the whole thing was just Sexton stirring the pot to make everyone nervous. He is probably trying to make sure Lane is the highest paid coach in the country no matter where he winds up....and that's why rhe extension hasn't been signed; its not high enough yet.

He's not a normal weird dude, I think he has some sort of social anxiety and/or is on the spectrum, with narcissistic personality tendencies thrown in. It's rare, but you can be both autistic and narcissistic. His disconnect with social cues (trolling his own fans, even though I personally enjoy that immensely), but added to the arrogance he presents, are pretty good indicators.

The former girlfriend lives in Dallas.

Being totally qualified 😁, yes, I think he has some sort of anxiety disorder. I don't think he's comfortable with public speaking, which is the case with many of us, but he seems to have a bit of stage fright when being interviewed or giving a briefing.

That’s what they have to pay if he is fired. I don’t think that’s what they get paid. Probably closer to 5
Correct.

According to USA Today Sports, Kiffin would owe Ole Miss a "flat fee" around $4 million, if he terminated his contract on or before Dec. 31, 2025.
Before Dec 31, 2025: $4 million
Before Dec 31, 2026: $3 million
Before Dec 31, 2027: $2 million
After Jan 1, 2028: $1.5 million

And those dates like buyouts for firing are why I have a problem with the “ultimatum” coaches can’t tell the schools fire me before a certain date so I get my full buyout. Again as it has been pointed out, it’s not like Ole Miss had leverage anyway.

Interesting that date of December isn't going to happen with the portal opening up in January. The school hiring will owe OM $1M.
