Did we waste the best offensive threat we've had since Jerious on 3-6 yard routes? Mostly sarcasm, but you can't help but pull for this kid.

...seriously, I never thought he was overwhelmingly fast. Most SEC DB's had no trouble keeping up with him. I just don't get it.

"we have no WR's" complaint we constantly hear about the offense, considering we had him and Burke last year.

the most reliable in. No one can forget the fade we threw to him against LSU last year where, if you had a seat on the West Side, you could not see him at all he was so blanketed.

This is all just baffling.

didnt he lead the SEC in yards per catch as a junior?

Ya know, alot of good programs find ways to get the ball to the best players instead of worrying "the system"

who that guy is and what had happened to the real Lance Long.

I would wonder if his girlfirend and parents have suspicions.

We heard this every year, during the spring and during August. I'm pretty sure he's been the training camp heisman winner several times. Come game day, it's a different story, and I bet the Cards find that out.
Although I will say I am pulling for him.

For one, he did play. Two, he was key in many chain-moving plays. Three, he never was that fast, at least on gameday. Four, we didn't really have anybody to throw to him.</p>

I was often pissed at how often we would force him the ball the last couple of years.

Reverses that never worked for example.

we will always have crap like this in common: Michael Spurlock becoming the first person to return a kick for a TD in Tampa history and Lance Long striking fear into the heart of NFL DBs. Geez.

All I remember about Lance Long:

1. We faked a punt and against Tulane and it appeared to have actually worked EXCEPT that Lance Long stepped out right in front on the first down marker despite the fact that NO ONE was near him giving Tulane the ball back.

2. He almost cost us the Egg Bowl by going the wrong direction on Carroll's INT.

Those memories highlight my problem with Long- I don't think he has a real high football IQ. He may have great hands and may be the white Carl Lewis, but he does stupid, inexcusable things on the field that get you beat.

The guy started practically every game last season, and was even given some reverses to run. I remember thinking, why does Long play so much?? He was completely unremarkable as a WR.

stupid things in life also like walking from the dorms to Wal-Mart and back his first year at state. Saw it with my own eyes and when I asked him all he said was, "I didn't think it was that far away."

All props be to Lance..... Hopefully he'll make the team, that way the Cardinals offense becomes even more horrific and the pac-10's sweetheart mr. shower boy leinart gets the boot we could all see coming from the nfl since his draft day. Hip Hip Hoooray!

The posters bitched the whole 2006 & 2007 seasons when Long made a catch (he always ran the route too short), when he tried to run a reverse, and when he tried to return kickoffs (as the up back), etc.

Fast forward 8 months later to August 2008, the posters are bitching because we apparently didn't throw it to him enough or get him more involved in the offense.

he wasn't that great at State but looks like he has a decent shot to make a NFL roster.

has anyone thought that the difference might be the undeceptive, unstrategic, techmo bowl pass routes that croom's offense calls for as opposed to what the cardinals are trying to do? we never run routes designed to find a mismatch or routes that are designed to work together to achieve an open spot.....lance long would have been the second coming to wes welker if he had played at texas tech....and if wes welker had played at state, he would have done no more than lance long did.

The kid pretty much caught anything thrown in his direction. The complaint I always remember was that he never ran far enough.....his the thread titled "King of the Short Routes". I believe his role at State was as a possession receiver but it was easier for folks to make fun of the walk-on white kid who ran a 9 yd out when we needed 10 yds instead of appreciating his ability to catch the ball. I'm sure our coaches don't teach players do half-*** their routes. Lance was probably the #2 or #3 receiver in the pattern and that is why a lot of is routes were not always past 10 yds.

but these nine yard patterns were on third and ten. we never complained about him making nine yard catches on first or second down.
