Herbstreit said this morning on Mike and Mike that he believes adding JT as the starter and a full week of prep as the starter will produce the best offensive output of this season for OSU so far. I can't argue with that idea. If Rutgers is going to be competitive they are going to need their A+ game and the fans to be on their feet and loud all game. In the end, a A+ game for RU may not even be enough. Either way Saturday night should be entertaining.

Playing Rutgers would likely have given them their best offensive output o the season regardless of QB. Our defense is bottom 5 in P5 right now.

Fair point. I do think having a night game at home will work in RU's favor. It may be worth 10-14 points and they still may lose by 25.

Indiana (504 yards/game), Maryland (457 yards/game) and Hawaii (429 yards/game) aren't exactly the '85 Bears and the offense still had some struggles against all three of those teams.

Our best defense will be sustaining drives on offense. OSU has some warts this year. We have some decent film of team having success this year on them. However, even playing a flawless game, it will be hard to beat them. We need a loud crowd, energy in the stadium and need to pull out all the stops. Can't let them jump out quick. The longer we hang in, the more confidence will build.

We need to play a bend but don't break game on defense. They're gonna drive on us..but we have to hold them to as many FGs as we can.

It was obvious that JT was better but allowed the other QB to start. JT will have a great game to show he should be the starter.

To me this is the best part of being in the Big Ten. Every conference game is a bowl game and this is our national championship game. It doesn't get better than this.

I was hoping they stayed with Jones one more week.

What does it say about OSU's talent and depth when you hope they stick with the QB that led them to a Nat'l Championship?[eyeroll]

There are 8 P5 teams below us in Total Defense.
We are 105 and Texas Tech is 122. Texas Tech is 5-2 and went to the wire with TCU.
Texas Tech makes up for it by being #2 in Total Offense and #3 in Scoring Offense.
Rutgers is #34 in Total Offense #40 in Scoring Offense.

Not too shabby, but we need to put up more offense to overcome our defense, or put up more defense. Basically, we need to score more points than we give up to win. I think that is the way it works. . . .

So you saying there is literately a chance. I like it. I will take any reason to keep the hope.

all I want to see from the defense this year is pressure on the QB, containing the run, contested passes, and minimal missed tackles. Just give us a chance to keep us in the game. Not so worried about stats due to what happened before the season, which basically removed an entire unit from the team. I expect the freshman to get beat on plays, make mistakes, but I just want to see improvement, which we have. Hopefully Austin heals up quick.

So what we're saying basically is ...no matter what we do or how good we play we can't win with J.T, Barrett at QB?...well do our chances ramp up if J.T.Barrett for some reason is on the sideline ?...there was a time when Rutgers managed to extract the opponents QB from the equation...not wishing any ill but .

Look Appalachian State was able to beat Michigan when Rich Rod was there. There's always the chance and this Rutgers team is improving significantly each week and has talent. I actually think the game will be closer than people think.

That game was under Lloyd Carr's final season.

We are playing a lot better now than we were earlier in the season. Although I think like the rest of you that winning this game will take a miracle of sorts, I also think we can make life harder for them.
I know this is not something some guys on here like to see, but I think if we can hold this game tight that is a hell of a lot better than what happened last year.

Yes we did. When an opposing QB RAN on to the field against RU he took the chance of being CARRIED off.

From your lips to God's ears Mike! Gotta do it, however, against a VERY good D as OSU comes in #19 in Total Defense, #5 in sacks (24), and #6 Pass Efficiency Defense (60th against the run, however...).

We've seen worse. WVU in its heyday still gives me nightmares and we did ok with them.

Losing 80-7 and about 17 in a row, is not OK. I remember getting to my seat about 6 minutes into the game and being behind 21-0.

Was your post a typographical nightmare?
