Kirk Herbstreit vs Parson in Twiter Battle

Could Kirk Herbstreit’s mouth cost his beloved Buckeyes a star recruit? Or could the recruit’s mouth buy him an early spot in Ohio State’s doghouse?

Five-star prospect Micah Parsons, the top-ranked defensive end, called for the former Under Armour All-American. Then on Monday, Carman followed with a tweet that Haskins should play. Herbstreit quickly responded with a tweet suggesting all recruits should “keep quiet and worry about their own teams.”

Didn't see him mention the Huskers anywhere in his threat.

“Pretty sure I wouldn’t have any problems in Dabo Swinney’s or Clay Helton’s locker room for my OPINION on OSU’s qb,” Parsons tweeted.

If Parson attitude is what he brings I'd let him go somewhere else. He gets called out and then threatens to go somewhere else? Yea right.

I suspect we'll take him if we can, and I 'd say the chances he'll be a handful to deal with for the staff will be immense. I wish one could say there is a track record of discipline with our staff....but, I think it be pretty easy to punch holes in that - from prior stops, to current staff DUIs, to numerous and repeated breakdowns on the field-both sides of the ball.

Thanks, misread it!

Actually, you didn't misread it, the author mistyped or misquoted ;).

The article says Parsons backed down after Herbstreit's comments but Carman didn't. But when the author provides the quote, it attributes it to Parsons: “'Pretty sure I wouldn’t have any problems in Dabo Swinney’s or Clay Helton’s locker room for my OPINION on OSU’s qb,' Parsons tweeted."

Presumably the author of the article meant to say, Carman tweeted.

And that would be different from the way things were in the 90's?

maybe the adults should just ignore his tweets. that seems pretty reasonable too
Third option. Kirk should at least ignore them publicly. It really doesn't look good for him or his employer to get embroiled with high school kids on twitter. If he really wanted to help the kid, private message him and tell him that, having been there, these comments can hurt the player later on in the locker room.

P.S. Sounds like Urban already dealt with this behind the scenes. Parsons is very wrong to participate in this nonsense. I would hate for a Husker recruit to do the same thing.

Look, if this kid comes here, let him bring the attitude. IMO THAT is needed. Are many of you familiar with "the sandman", Jason, Christian, Grant, Bring attitude to a defense. If you bring attitude to a defense and kick *** that is what makes a defense great. Personally, I'll take a kid that is a handful and a leader. Set the example.

But those kids wouldn't have disrespected Osborne and his decisions. I don't think it is the attitude that is the problem. It is not respecting the coach they are saying they may want to play for.

Maybe he already knows he's coming here and sowing some discontent elsewhere?

Already getting into the head of Ohio State offense without playing a down... I like it!

Who said anything about him disrespecting MR????. You need to tell your husband to quit using your sig. It's giving you a bad name & I would hate to ban you because of him for trolling posts.

I think we should recruit an entire host of adults to attack him on Twitter. That would the logical thing to do, instead of not allowing 18-year old kids to run your life.

If he is gonna disrespect Meyer, why wouldn't he disrespect MR?

You didn't use Riley's name but it could easily be inferred that the disrespect would be extended to Riley if he were here as well.

OK?????? As many have said in this thread it's not a good look. Now, give the kid credit because he realized he had goofed with Meyer and apologized. He didn't continue trying to justify his action...timnsun.

I'm just trying to connect the dots… I wasn't trying to upset anybody here. Been a long day for me, and I probably shouldn't have posted anything.

You would also need someone to coach the kid up and to buy into the team concept. I don't see it happening right now.

I'm really not sure why everyone gives Kirk so much grief? Ok so he graduated from Ohio State. He has to graduate from somewhere. I know a lot of people got upset because he laughed and joked at our ranking last year but so what? He was right. Having some media bash us once in a while to help us stay grounded isn't all that bad.

It's amazing that some don't see what a blathering, won't shut-up, inflated perception of his opinion, mealy mouthed dousch bag Herbie
has become in the last 10 years. I can't stand the SEC homer that played at OSU. The clown is a sell out. He had to move out of Columbus because they all figured out what a phoney he is. Now he's twitter squabbling w high school kids? The guy is a grade A putz!

Has Twitter ever served any useful purpose?
Yes. My main source of news as it happens. If you know how to use it and do not follow the media making the story about them, it is a pretty easy way to get news.

I like him to, and he's uber successful at what appears to be a pretty badass job. I think a lot of Husker fans will never forgive him for being upset at the all time team ranking thingy ESPN did a few years ago....a manufactured segment at that, as we later learned he was being instructed in his earpiece to be the contrarian. If my employer favored a certain concerence and I loved my awesome job, I'd favor 'em to, but having said that I always found his opinions reasonable and entertaining.

No, he was telling the truth at the time. Some fans are crazy. We all know that.
