Know anything about the new commit?

We must be really, really nervous about the interior of the OL next year, because I didn't think there was anyway we would take a G/C recruit. I wonder if we still try and sign Glauser or some other JUCO tackle. I think we have to sign one. I think Holley's commitment means we can go ahead and chalk Damien Robinson up as a bust. And Joey Trapp.

If things go our way on signing day, we are going to have to drop some guys, because sure as hell have filled this class up with some scrubs.

One could guess some of our remainingbig targets are going elsewhere. What do we have, 5 spots left?

Big names we still want Evans, Ward, Autrey, Both Browns, 2-3 OL. We may be bitching again come signing day.</p>

I don't understand how we as an SEC school that can offer immediate playing time to a good OL can only manage to geta 2 star JUCO OL with offers from UAB, USF, ECU, and Marshall. This is ridiculous. Those who say stars don't matter and Dan knowshow to evaluate talentcan ***** and moan at me all they want. At the end of the day, we need better OL, and a 2 star JUCO center that is going to move to guardis not how we do that.

At some point, we have to start taking the steps necessary to get guys that make us better. If that means going out of MS on a regular basis to fill needs, especially needs that we fill with JUCO guys, we need to start doing that. But if we are going tostick with this mentality that we can build a championship program with recruits within a 5 hour radius of campus, we better get our asses in gear and start bringing in better kids, period. Quality depth is something we don't have on the OL, and it's killing us this year. Commits like this to me just don't help us out at all.

Obviously I hopeI'm wrong and Holley ends up being a solid OL.It just baffles me how we can't seem to ever get quality guys from JUCO to fill offensive line needs. At least in my 6 years as an MSU fan.

ever coached. Mullen also wants a true center and Dylan is a more natural guard. With Holley you move Day to RG or LG, to fill Tobias' spot, and put Holley at C. He has a mean streak like Day so those two in the center of the line, along with Gabe, should give us a solid interior. We are still going to sign 5-6 more guys. A couple of early commits have grade issues (not Nick James since he's made almost enough progress to not be a risk) so that will free up a couple of spots.

against our 25 for this year. They quote Campbell on 247 as saying that the kid is the best OL that he has ever coached at any level and he apparently had incredible games against a couple of teams that had really good DLinemen. The fact that he won't count against this years signing class makes it a good deal I think.

Steve Campbell knows his talent levels. Vick Ballard is a prime example. Mullen is doing a decent job of mixing HS guys with a few Juco players. I say a solid pickup that helps with depth.

and rankings and he said so last week in an article. Like others have said if Campbell is that high on him and Mullen thinks the guy can play then I feel pretty confident that this is good use of a scholarship.

We were in the top 3 in rushing the last 2 years with 1 4star and 4 nobodies.

It seems like they normally start at 3* for no other reason than the fact that they've played an extra couple years. That said, while I'm as frustrated as anyone with the apparent lack of recruiting progress, Mullen hasn't missed badly on many. He normally seems to get even the lowly rated guys to a point where they can at least positively contribute. That ain't gonna win us a division title, but we're so far away from that right now that I guess I'm not even worried about it at this point.

At least that appears to be the case for OM and MSU. MSU's OL in 2007 was great and Michael Brown was on his way to being All SEC the following year.

OM's OL had Oher in 2008 and was pretty good. In 2009, Jerry was good, not great, and the OL seemed to be about the same.

For MSU, Sherrod was fantastic in 2009 and 2010 and the OL really ran the ball well. Both teams don't have that NFL caliber OL on their teams this year, and it shows. Both teams are struggling to run the ball and protect the QB.

A JUCO OL that canenroll in December makes sense with MSU losing3 starters to graduation, and another starter coming back from a severe knee injury that almost always takes longer for lineman to recover from as opposed to position players.

it seems likea good commit. If we are going to become a decent program, we have to sign some 4 stars every year. But as we all know, two stars can end up being hall of famers. This looks like one that could be really good and help us instantly. I don't hate this one, but we have to step it up overall.

The guys giving the stars don't know much more about football than the average poster on this board. They've never coached a game in their life. So they're not really qualified to evaluate players. And the one position that's the hardest to evaluate players is OL. They might have a pretty good clue who the good skill position players are, just like anyone on this board would. But few of us could go to a HS game and tell how good each individual offensive lineman is. And neither can they.

we need depth, this will allow us to sign 4 maybe 5 oline this class.

This guy could be named a JUCO all-american. His video from 247 looks pretty good against MS juco teams.

bringing in 2 juco olineman will also help with grade balance rather than having like
8 freshman 5 sophmores 3 jrs and 2 srs, with signing 5 olineman

The kid has a non stop motor and I predict he starts for us next year. Campbell does a heck of a job with linemen and Koennig has to be given credit for getting the kid. I think we are filling holes and if we take a Juco, we think they can come in and play right away. We have done okay at MGCCC and we need to keep the pipeline going. Doesn't surprise me that we may take as many as 4 JUCO's and I have complete faith in Mullen and his staff in evaluating talent.
