Story up on Gene's Page confirms that Greg Knox, Auburn's former wide receivers coach has been hired to coach runningbacks. What do you guys think about the hire?

A) Auburn fans, by and large, hated the guy as a coach. So much so that they tend to diminish the fact that he was their recruiting coordinator and apparently a very good recruiter. A lot of this stems from the fact that their WR's have been so bad over the last few years and were given bad reviews on their route running at the Senior Bowl.

B) He is supposed to be a good recruiter and in a good area for us (Alabama).

C) Auburn fans proved how stupid they were by calling for Tubby's head.

D) You can't be too pumped about getting someone from Auburn's offensive staff - they were as bad as we were last year.

E) He is part of the infamous BBQ gang, who allegedly caused a lot of infighting amongst the Auburn coaches because of Tubby's loyalty to that group.

F) He coached WR's at Auburn, he will coach RB at State. Don't really know the significance of that or whether it is a good or bad thing, but he was clearly brought here to recruit.

G) RB coach is one of the least important asst. jobs. The most important thing you have to teach is protection and ball control.

H) All of this rationalizing I am doing can't be good.

we hired a career RB coach to be our head coach. It's really just now sinking in how many dumb things the Templeton administration did to handicap us.

As far as the hire, I think it's a solid one. He can recruit, and he has had some damn good receivers come out of Auburn during his tenure. And I for one, am hoping to see a bit less coaching (albeit BETTER coaching) and a little more playing. I think that is what Mullen is aiming for with the spread philosophy. Our players, esp. offense, were thinking too much last year and not having fun.

The philosophy seems to be get the ball to your speed guys in open space and watch them run.

But let me also remind you that he was not hated when he had Obamanu, Aromoshudu, Courtney Taylor and Anthony Mix running routes for him. Your point F is the one that confuses me as to why we hired him.

coordinator and the very worst he will be okay at that, probably better than just okay, though.

If anybody sees him on campus in the next few days, would you ask him to return the file boxes and **** he took back in '99. Thanks in advance.

Well, you just stroll over to an UGA board and find this little jewel ...
Well, I see Mississippi State swooped in and took Tubby's Bag Man, Greg Knox.
Or, you can just enjoy the post of mr schizophrenic himself, uscreb, just down the thread. Either way, it looks like the effort to beef up recruiting is well under way.

is out of a job? It doesn't bother me that he won't be an on field coach, but maybe he might end up in some kind of admin job or with the Bulldog Club maybe? Just curious.

It was reported on football scoop that Fedora was interviewing him to replace Wilson, so naturally Mullen had to get involved.

really soft academic requirements to land kids that can't get in BCS schools. 4 year juco program. Fedora's a smart guy.

usm has the same requirements you do. You even thought there was still such a thing as partial qualifiers, so that shows the level of your knowledge
