Yeah, he should have 2 more years of eligibility left due to COVID. So he’ll still have another leverage year. Looks like he may be the first ever 3-time first round pick in 2022.

This should be a warning. Pitch counts matter. No matter how you shake it, Rocker was overused in his career at Vandy. If 2020 hadn’t ended prematurely, he’d have already been injured, his arm was sore at that point and he’d missed some time.

It’s almost like 160 pitches in a game is NEVER a good thing, right?

Don’t even get me started on what Pat Casey did to Kevin Abel.

Bottom line, if you’re a first/second rounder out of high school, you have to sign.

I’m not sure he’s going to pitch in 2022. He can have surgery, if required, on Vandy’s dime and rehab at their facilities for free. Plus, without pitching he can maintain some additional leverage.

Or there’s something very wrong with the Mets negotiating tactics. Even if he required Tommy John tomorrow, you’re telling me that really changes his stock or his outlook? Hoglund was a still 1st rounder weeks after the surgery happened, signed practically for the slot value, and his potential is nowhere near Rocker’s by any expert estimation.

The Mets are still paying Bobby Bonilla I believe, so maybe they were trying to save some moolah. Either way, I just don't understand not signing a pitcher who has been dominant in college who was cleared by other doctors. Worth the risk if you ask me.

How do you know that no other doctors felt that way? I thought I read that he didn’t provide/participate in a pre-draft MRI. Once the Mets drafted him and made him do the MRI is when they discovered whatever bothered them.

Rocker's agent doesn't make any of his players available for pre-draft physicals and they've said that every other Dr. who's examined him found no issues. Not sure I completely believe that. He clearly lost some velocity and wasn't the same pitcher the last half of last season.
