Kumar Rocker

[messageboardsuperhero]

Call me crazy but I think we give him some real problems tomorrow. It’s tough for a freshman to come back after 135+ pitches, and our lineup ain’t Duke.

Laying off the slider is easier said than done because it looks like a 95 MPH fastball until 10-15 feet from the plate- at which point it’s too late to check swing. The best way to attack a pitcher like that is don’t miss the fastball strike early in the count.

And we have a full 48 hours to game plan for him.

So does Vandy.

Hopefully we play. The Omaha forecast shows rain all day and night tomorrow.

That is the key. 17 of his 19 K’s against Duke were in the slider out of the zone. Don’t chase that sucker!!!!

And by the way. How does a team that put up 20 hits and 18 runs on a team turn around and strike out 19 times and get no hit? I posit that Duke was so freaking inconsistent they bared their souls against Kumar and he ate their livers with a little salt and pepper ala Hannibal Lector.

If we start to struggle against him......lay down 4-6 bunts down 3rd base line and make his big ole self....throw us out. Do something to rattle him.

[Shamoan]

If he keeps going to the well with that slider, it’s going to be boom or bust with this team. A lot of traffic or a lot of k’s.

Any chance we try to be patient and run Rocker’s pitch count up? We haven’t worried about that all year, so I’m guessing no?

Ok, you're crazy.***
