Tom Herman is a great coach and will have his pick of Power 5 jobs.

No doubt, that's why I was somewhat surprised he picked Houston. Good chance if Strong fails again in 2016 he will be gone and Herman is waiting for the UT job.

I don't think Nebraska was really in the lottery for him. I'm quite impressed by the success Coach Herman has had at Houston. I think if he wanted to leap after his first year he had several chances, but Houston ponied up the cash. Houston may actually end up being a formidable team in the coming years.

Big 12 hopes so, they'd prolly like to invite them. Problem is they are from Texas and I am sure it would be met with a *sigh* but at this point they can't be choosy. I can't believe Herman didn't bolt for greener pastures to be honest, good for Houston for getting him, and keeping him for the moment.

I agree. He would have been nice to have in 2017 to battle with POB. Would have sat out this year and learned the offense.

From things that I can recall seeing/reading in the past, when a player redshirts, they work with the scout team and don't learn the offense at all.

I hope that isn't how it is done, but I seem to recall people grumbling on here in the past over some January quotes from players over the last 10 years or so where they stated that they were excited to learn the offense going into spring ball after playing scout team during their redshirt year.

Does anyone know if that's how it works? Sounds dumb to me for it to be that way, but I didn't play D1 football either and don't know how it works.
