I am surprised I haven't seen a thread on this yet. Longest field goal in MSU history.

Yup. Just have to figure out roughly 20 more positions and we’re good.I was in total shock when he hit it. One less thing to worry about this year.
Yeah. He might kick a longer one this year. That one yesterday was a bombBeat Artie Crosby by 1 yard. He had 60 yards in that kick. It didn’t just leak over the bar.
Here is MSU luck. He hits a 56 yarder as time expires to beat one of those teams, but it's nullified by some stupid penalty like illegal formation or a false start. They back him up 5 yards and the next kick hits the cross bar.Yeah. He might kick a longer one this year. That one yesterday was a bomb
I can't imagine him nailing a 60 yarder or something to beat Texas or UGA
If Ferrie was a few years older, Mike Leach would’ve had back to back 9-win seasons.I was expecting him to miss an XP after hitting that one. Or miss the 30 yarder right before half. Would’ve been par for the course for our kickers historically. He’s quietly been one of the better ones we’ve had in recent memory, it’s just been exclusively on bad teams. There have been years where we had decent teams that lost multiple close games because our kickers were terrible.

I think a decent portion of our fan base only started in the Mullen years. They don’t really take the injuns seriously.Lock this up… first rule of having a good kicker is we don’t talk about having a good kicker
About Cosby’s55-yard kick. We were playing Memphis. They had tied their last 2 games. We were tied with Memphis having 4 down with seconds left at their own 38. They went for it. Pass was incomplete & Cosby kicked the 55-yard FG.
Ray Guy had a 61-yard FG. But it was on the road.It was also a stadium record for USM.

He could have played DB in the NFL but Al Davis wouldn’t let him because he was too valuable to risk. He was Oakland’s emergency QB most of his career. And he was a drafted in baseball twice. Struck out 260 batters in 220 innings at USM. So yeah. He was a great athlete.I figured he was also their FG kicker. What an athlete that guy was
It wasnt just pass incomplete. IIRC, the Memphis State QB was flagged for intentional grounding on the play. Back then, intentional grounding was a 5 yard penalty from the spot of foul, plus loss of down. Thats why we got the ball at the 38 instead of the 50.About Cosby’s55-yard kick. After reading this you are right they had 4th down at midfield. Tried a Hail Mary, but we got to the qb & he threw the ball away.It wasnt just pass incomplete. I also seem to remember a Memphis State receiver dropping a sure TD pass on 3rd down.
Good for him. The one thing he lacked was his ability to hit longer FG. Seems to have worked on that this offseason.I am surprised I haven't seen a thread on this yet. Longest field goal in MSU history.
