I'm sold. Pay the dude. He's 127-62 at UTAH. 17ing UTAH!! He's 11-2 in bowl games. We're absolute morons that deserve a ****** football program if we don't hire this guy when he's supposedly wanted to coach here for awhile now.

That ship has sailed. We missed that possible option

Ain’t no way a P5 coach is leaving to come to Starkville. Not one we’d want anyway.

Gene called him. Talked to the secretary. Asked if Kyle was Mormon. Don’t expect any more contact.

I've loved Kyle Whittingham from the first time I ever saw this video. He's the type coach that it takes to win at MSU.

If Kyle Whittingham wanted the job 2 years ago, he would be our coach today. Of course he didn't want the job. Only an idiot would say otherwise.

This go round? You mean he already stated he’s not interested in a job that has a head coach and isn’t open? Man, what a weird and random thing to say to someone and have it get back to a Mississippi high school assistant football coach.
When you read that back to yourself out loud, does it still sound like a good idea to post?

He is a great coach

He also played college football at BYU. He has been at the university of Utah in some football capacity since 1994. He has a solid program that now is a competitor in the Pac12.

I don't think he will leave Utah.

No way he leaves Utah, IMO. Besides, “he has no SEC experience”, a fact that has been repeated about our present coach as well as other coaches on this board time and time again. I mean, that sounds like a “thing” that makes SEC football different from “regular” football. Or, is that a “requirement” that Joe Mo lacks that makes him not suited to coach at Mississippi State, but wouldn’t be required of anyone other than Joe Mo? If that should truly be a requirement, then that has to disqualify somebody like Whittingham, too. Just curious.

I mean the person who knows Whittingham personally stated he would not be interested this time. That ship sailed 2 years ago but he was interested then. That’s directly from that person. Not C34 or anyone else. But that is where he was getting his info. Directly or through other channels? I don’t know, but I know the info from the person with a relationship with Whittingham is direct from them.

He was interested. Didn’t say he actively trying to get the job. Difference between interest and actively trying to get the job. Personally, I think it was a leverage thing with his AD and admin at Utah over some issues and disputes they were had previously. The person who knows him thought it was genuine interest but we saw what happened.

Ooooohh....we can wave $4 mill at him. Most schools pay 3 to 4 million a year. Joe is at a bargain rate for major college coaches. It's not like we are throwing around that big Starkvegas money. Ya know ? Unless you are hiring a junior college coach nobody is impressed by that amount anyway. It's ridiculous but a fact

Gotta wait a couple of years for whoever it is to succeed or fail so people can scream “there were red flags before he was hired” with 20/20 hind sight.

I would be willing to bet that was the case. Cohen isn't an idiot. If there was a successful, sitting P5 HC out there that really wanted our job, I can't believe we would not have hired him WAY before we would have even considered a coordinator with ZERO FBS HC experience even in the G5.
