Former Northwood standout Jay Dudley, a standout in the Bulldogs' spring game, has been ruled ineligible due to academic reasons.

"We're obviously disappointed, and no one is more upset about the situation than Jay," Dooley said. "Hopefully this will be a great lesson to him and to all freshmen on the importance of academics."

Former Evangel Christian linebacker Zach Schreiber, who transferred to Tech from Alabama, has been suspended from the team indefinitely for violating team rules.

"Zach has been battling some personal issues that we have been trying to help him resolve," Dooley said. "Unfortunately, it's led to conduct that is not representative of the values that have become the foundation of our program."

Both Shreveport athletes were expected to provide depth to Tech's linebacking corps.

In addition to those two losses, freshmen defensive back Jimmie Crawford and freshman running back Ketaraus Stanton were unable to meet NCAA academic qualifications and have been placed in junior colleges.

"We knew when we signed both Jimmie and Ketaraus that they were long shots to qualify," Dooley said. "Placing them in a junior college will allow them to focus on improving their academics while gaining valuable playing experience."

Stanton will be playing at Cisco Junior College while Crawford will enroll at Trinity Valley Junior College.

this is a little relieving considering I didn't have this game as a lockdown win...now I'm a little more optimistic.

I'll take 3.7 yards all day long. Moving the chains and keeping the other teams offense off the field is a winner, winner chicken dinner.....

With our ****** running backs, they could go get some intramural standouts to fill in.

They finished at #91(#46 in rushing, #111 in passing) in total defense last year and #86 in total offense(#88 passing, #56 rushing). If Coach Croom drives the point home that these guys can't be taken lightly and Carroll has progressed they way people says he has, I think we will control the game, ala Kentucky.

If not, just go back and take a look at last year's offense. Not many first downs there.

Peaches said we don't have any good running backs, so even if our "grande" one trips over the feet of our centers or guards at the line, we may only gain 2.028 yards per carry.
