40 point halftime lead , win by 48 (105-57). Plenty of azz chewing material for the bench warmers.

Our first 7 or 8 are solid, after that is weak. I guess that's not unusual. LSU plays them next. Probably win by 80.

I’m glad to see them winning these games but it’s a pretty weak non con schedule. It’s hard to say how good they are.

They're rebounding and playing D at a higher level than his previous teams. At least it looks that way to me.

But they still lack that true PG that Vic always has.

Madison Francis is an obvious superstar of the near future. He's gotta hold onto her for more than just this year. 30 points, 10 boards, 4 blocks, 3 steals and 2 assists from a true freshman.

The OOC schedule is truly pathetic. We played four games against SWAC teams and only two games against a Power 4 team, which we lost one of. Also, 10 of our 14 non conference games are at home, with two neutral site games (2-0) and two true road games (0-1 so far, still one to play at LaSalle). It’s good that we’re blowing teams out, but our schedule is so weak it’s hard to say how that will translate to conference play.

Purcell is already looking for dat money to hang on to his new star. From Robbie's article up top...

“Watch out,” coach Sam Purcell said of Francis. “The reason she had 30 tonight is she worked for it. I think I speak for everybody in Starkville that obviously we want to see her for all four years because she’s going to do special things.”

Only other girl freshmen to score 30 are Victoria Vivians, LaToya Thomas and Rickea Jackson.

I seem to remember Jennifer Fambrough scoring 40+ as a freshman. She could have been a sophomore.

ETA:
  • High-Scoring Game: Scored 42 points in a 1998-99 game against Northwestern State, a feat that was a school record at the time before being surpassed.
That was her freshman year. Fambrough was awesome. Good person too. Fambrough, LaToya Thomas and Tan White were on a team together that didn't make the NCAA Tournament.

Shot selection, defense, and ability to run plays have impressed me. The starters have a high basketball IQ IMHO which will pay off in SEC play. Basketball, more than any other sport, is a game that can change directions quickly. I like the fact that this team keeps it foot on the accelerator until late in the game. The SEC will be tough no doubt. Georgia and Auburn had already played this team and faired about the same.

Looks like he missed that game. I remember her doing that, just didn't know what year.

Amazing how early days of the internet are like prehistory. Can't find much on her career.
