Instructor in the Navy then. Hosting a class BBQ, drinking suds and watching the game. Not a sight I will ever forget after Sean's basket.....then that **** happened.

I remember my whole 5th grade class making a big deal about it the day after (well next school day after)...but I didn't follow sports at all at the time so I didn't really get what all the fuss was about.

Meanwhile, my wife, who is born and raised in Boston has told me how she remembers where she was during their "Laettner moment", which is of course when the ball went through Bill Buckner's legs in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series. And in a perfect example of the Mandella effect (look it up)...she honestly didn't remember or realize that Boston had another chance in Game 7 (where, just like in their 1975 Game 7, blew an early 3-0 lead)!

Was not guarding the inbounds the worst coaching decision ever made by a coach?

You might want add the last 2/3 mins of the
Wisky game.....more than 1 play but.........
RP & Cal..2 Hall Famers.........
Do you remember '98 title game?..K use all
his TOs earlier and was helpless as W Turner
took the game over....Great coaches may mistakes that
are remembered because the world is watching them

I was there in the Spectrum that night, 8 rows behind the UK bench, and I guess a "power play" analogy works as well as any other.

Pitino explained after the fact as having an extra man so that Duke couldn't run some type of pick play and have Laettner wide open underneath the basket .....I don't believe this for a second.

But the fact of the matter (to me) was that after Woods makes the shot, watching the team get back to the bench for the timeout and it seemed to be that the enormity of the moment hit everyone at the same time (coaches included) and in the huddle everyone look scared / hesitant, overwhelmed.....maybe Pitino most of all

Mashburn had fouled out, I believe Gimel Martinez had too...but, if Pitino sticks Andre Riddick into the game for 2.1 seconds only to make Grant Hill run the baseline we probably have a whole different narrative.

My takeaway from the game was, a team and a coach that had made their name on being aggressive and taking it to the other team, picked the biggest moment in their collective athletic lives to go passive.

I remember like it was yesterday..I had gone to the bathroom during the time out..I ran back into the living room, sat down, Grant Hill throws the ball in. Laettner catches the ball, turns and scores..I looked at my wife and ask her, "did that just happen or was it a replay." she had this look on her face that looked like a family member had just passed..she said "no that just happened, it was live." I sat there and stared at the TV for I know 20 mins or so without moving or saying a word..I was stunned beyond belief..I have the game on VHS tape but I could not tell you one thing about the post game as it felt like an out of body experience..I still can't believe we lost that game..I have never had that feeling while watching a UK or any game for that matter..Hope I never have that feeling again..it still is painful.

The ending of the game was horrible, but the game itself is what created my love for college basketball and for UK. I still wonder why the poor guy that got stepped on by the POS didn't get to guard the inbounds. He was a good 6'8 and would of made it harder for Hill to see his target.

Laetner shuffled his feet before he shot it. I have watched that play a thousand times over the years and he walked every time. He should not of even been in the game. He should have been ejected from the game for stomping on Timberlake while he was laying on the floor.

I was a Junior in HS. The next day a guy in our class, who was from Durham and a Duke fan, wore a Duke sweatsuit to school. He ended up with his nose broke and left school that day.
