The Green is going to be a meatgrinder for those schools to get to the playoffs.

After and hour and 45 minute drive to Lake Zurich I was greatly disappointed by the poor showing of Montini. The score doesn't reflect the dominance of Lake Zurich over Montini. Clearly LZ was the better team. Montini was outplayed and out coached. Montini didn't have a first down until late in the fist half. 3 and out on the on the first 4 possessions. Tried running the ball just a couple of times, then pass, pass, pass. Long touchdown pass to M. Quaglia before half time made it 21-7. After half time LZ started a drive and turned the ball over on a fumble at the Montini 30 or so. Got a first on a 12 yard run which got some momentum going for Montini and they drove down to the 4 yard line for first and goal on the 4 yard line, Montini behind 21-7, at this point in the middle of the third period and Montini doesn't score. Montini's 2 power runners were not in the game for the 1st 2 downs and then a poor 3rd down pass fell incomplete off the hands of the receiver. Then a missed field goal and the momentum Montini had at that point went out the window. Wonder why Montini didn't try to run the ball in on the 1st two downs with their power runners??? Doubt if it would have altered the final outcome but Montini was getting 3 or 4 yards a carry, sometimes more prior to that point in the game.

A lot of penalties and poor tackling hurt Montini but the game was lost in the trenches offensively and defensively. LZ RB had over 200 yards rushing and showed speed and agility when he had the ball. Montini beat LZ 19-7 last year but what a difference a year makes. LOL

Play calling got better in the second half. I think the Montini qb Morrisey has a good arm and is accurate but too many dropped balls by the wrs.

Sat with a group of Montini faithful and we wondered why MCHS went for the fg instead of going for it on fourth down. Missed the fg when going for it could have gotten a td. We also thought the Montini db were disorganized. You afre right about the trenches. LZ controlled both sides of the line. Montini doesn't have a dominant lineman this year.

LZ is a good team so the loss hurts but LZ will win 8 games.

I still say Bukovsky will win a title. He's won 7 or 8 wrestling titles and won a girls softball title. He will get it done.

Bu is also a hall of fame wrestling coach as his teams won around 7 state wrestling titles and coached around 40 state championship wrestlers.

Thanks for the updates as I could not make it to the game.

Gene knows my positions on the State of the broncos. Hopefully we will be ready for Fenwick.

I saw Naz this week and they are just loaded with talent. Can't wait to see them play Marist.

You went to Naz game instead of Montini? Are you sick? I'm surprised no one mentioned Naz yet, too quiet around here.

What are your thoughts about upcoming Bronco/Friar tilt. Looking forward to that one again, but this isn't the '16 Friar squad.

I definitely was not bum rapping Coach Bu, who I have a lot of respect for and agree he will win a state title in football. I was just upset over the offensive play calling early in the game and later on 1st and goal at the 4 yard line with Montini finally having some momentum in the game. IMO Montini needed to establish its run game early against LZ which it never did until the 3rd quarter. 3 and out on the first 4 possessions with maybe three or 4 running plays and a lot of passes during that cycle. The running plays were getting 3-4 yards and then we started passing and quickly turned over the ball. LZ on the other hand ran the ball and ran the ball some more and we couldn't stop them. Defense was on the field way too long during the 1st half and it showed in the score.

Montini has two very good power runners (#5 and #24) who IMHO could have taken it in for the score when it was 21-7 as they did against Mount Carmel last year on two goal line stands. Both were on the sidelines for the first two plays and then we ran the QB to the outside on what looked like a sweep. We might have got one yard in 3 plays. Big momentum shift at that point and end of ball game.

Agree the db's looked a little shaky and IMO were playing too far off the receivers and not aggressive enough. Bruscianelli at LB looked very good as he did last year. Too many missed tackles led to a lot of LZ first downs and at least one LZ score. A lot of juniors playing on defense so this game loss experience will benefit them in the long run. I still believe Montini will turn it around.

Sanborne drives that D. Sideline to sideline. Very quick and fast for a linebacker of his size. I can see why Wisconsin is salivating to get him onto campus and get him in their weight room. His 220lb frame could easily go to 240 over the next few years and if he keeps that quickness and speed? Wow he is going to be a very nice piece of their Defense for 2-3 years.

Sanborn is a very good player but the defensive line plays lights out for the most part and is a big help to him for one on one tackles. LZ ate us up with a lot of short passes for 8-9 yards on first down. Montini had some nice plays, receivers dropped a few passes and the only score was a mid range pass to Quaglia who outran the defense for the long touchdown.

Just saw on facebook a replay of the previous set of downs prior to the first down and goal. Power runner #5 ran thru 2 LZ players for a 12 yard gain to the 2 yard line which was negated by a holding penalty. Montini got to the 4 yd line on a pass to Matt Ross and then the wheels fell off.

I don't believe you can play a "bend but don't break" defense these days against teams in the north including Prairie Ridge, Huntley, CG, Lake Zurich and even Maine South and expect to win the game.

Also the spread offense with nobody on the backfield should not be used when you are first and goal to go.

Totally agree with everything you said. LZ would have won this game regardless as our defense was outplayed. Not so much a size difference but it looked like Montini's defense was too far off the ball on the outside and also at the LB positions. We got a lot of penetration but it looked like where we penetrated the line LZ ran in the opposite direction. Hopefully this is a wakeup call for Montini. Last year Fenwick just dominated the entire game and won easily. Should be a better game this year. Keep the faith!

Can someone out there explain what is going on at QB for Montini. Do the have someone set at that position? If not, why?

Montini has 3 QB's, all seniors. QB Morrissey took over last year after starter Norgle got hurt in the first game and played well as a passer. QB Orlando was brought in occasionally mainly as an option type QB and ran the ball well. IMO Norgle is the more accurate passer with a better velocity on the ball. Orlando has very good speed and is shifty running the ball. I would like to see Coach Bu settle on two QB's to play most of the time. Norgle and Orlando are both capable of making the short passes but IMO Norgle throws a better long pass. I understand that Morrissey has played at tight end in practice earlier this summer. Norgle in

Not saying you're wrong at all, just funny how opinions can differ. I think Morrissey has a much higher ceiling and can make many more throws. Imo it opens up more offense. I get the change of pace/style QB, but that's all that Orlando is, he's not really a QB. Norgle doesn't do much for me personally.

Norgle was the starter last year before he got hurt and played a little on Varsity as a Soph. Don't get me wrong I like Morrissey as he did a great job last year when Norgle when down. Orlando is very good option type QB who by the way threw the only TD pass against Lake Zurich and last year threw the pass to Mitch West on 4th and 10 which help us beat Mount Carmel last year. He can throw the ball but mainly short to medium passes. Norgle on the other hand has a better touch on the longer passes and can run with the ball as he is a stocky kid who can run better than Morrissey.

Just my outside opinions. I've seen Morrissey throw quite a bit. Love his upside. With my guys playing Montini this week I'm glad you haven't turned over the reigns to Morrissey personally! I like Orlando, he's a nice player and can help out in multiple areas but no team is gonna make him their primary Q. Just my thoughts, could be wrong, my wife thinks I am all the time. Looking forward to Friday!

Fenwicks Nudo is a mastermind. Saw him take a average Driscoll team in 1990 and made that school legendary.

He's a great coach and better man. I think he's one of the best in IL but you may be giving him too much credit for Driscoll.

TPF,

I think he's a great guy but does everyone forget November 2012 against Boylan and the fateful punt that never needed to happen?

How about what he's done for Fenwick's program in that time? There are a couple boneheaded mistakes that people throw into the conversation but he's made the program a perennial deep playoff team.

TPF,

I think he's a great guy but, Mastermind and Boneheaded mistakes are mutually exclusive of each other. Fenwick will be good and He is a good man.

Fenwick is good because of him. I did not call him a mastermind. There was not 11 Nudo's on the field trying to tackle the returner. Last year proved to be a "boneheaded" play but only because he didn't fight the officials more. His instructions to Keller were actually spot on.

I actually think if 11 Nudo's were on the field a punt would be returned every time.

Some of the best football coaches in the state, great game in store for all involved. Bu vs Nudo,
Tough football played by players with very high football IQ coaches.
