Landon Young vs Male High

Lafayette's OL was bigger than Male's DL and the biggest OL Male has faced this year. I thought Young with his size and their OL would be a big problem for Male's defense. Young also played center on the goal line. Male did stop them on 3 consecutive goal line plays causing Lafayette to turn the ball over on downs. Young may develop into a great tackle in College but he certainly was not dominate in this game.

I was impressed with Lafayette's QB.

I hope he redshirted like a all the fr. We need to get to the point where we have 40 plus redshirts in our sr and jr classes yearly

Males football team was in a different league than the rest of the state this year. And your Offensive tackle isn't going to make that big of a difference

You can't judge OL blocking 5'11 225 lbs tackles, just never works that way. Put Landon against another 285 lbs. guy rushing and it looks a lot different.
IMO

Male was electric this year; like the really good Male squads of the last twenty year loaded with skill position speed. They looked like they didn't have big kids on their d line, but they had really strong linebackers. They were huge on the O line.

I can't remember the name of the kid but their #9 was phenomenal against Trinity.

But you can judge the type of blocks and the force of the blocking regardless of the size of the opponent. I watched the game from the field and his blocks seemed ordinary IMO, even when he was blocking a LBer. I guess I expected more from the state's #1 player. I'm not implying that LAF should have won because of him.

What's your team you root for (UL)

I mean trying to block 200 lbs. guys is not that easy, Male has guys jumping running around is hard for OL.
OL always look awkward at this level.
IMO

#9 - Zack Smith. He had a great game against LAF too.

Try blocking a 250 + guy with a 200lb guys athleticism. That's what he will se in the SEC.

This guy is a specimen at 6' 7' 300lbs. His sized impressed me but not necessarily his play in this game. Young along with their other huge OLinemen gave me concern for Male stopping their running game and running QB. I'm a Male High Alumus and yes a U of L fan. When it comes to track I'm for all KY kids. If Young throws the shot and disc in track, then I'm with him

Based on his size I was concerned about a Jadeveon Clowney type performance from him.

So the dislike between fan bases is such that we are now criticizing and judging one another over the HS teams people cheer for? So sad to read the level of immaturity that there is on college message boards.

I was at the Male-LL game last night, and was very impressed with what I saw in the Young kid. Very big kid that moves very well for his size.

I have no idea what kind of kid he is (ie character, work ethic, etc), but if he works very hard and develops like you would hope, I could see him being a 340-Pound NFL left tackle some day. I'd be really excited if you sign him. I understand why Bama is going after him.

Thanks for your input, more in line with what everyone else seems to think about him. I haven't heard anything negative about his character, doesn't seem to be a worry.

PS: And he did choose UK, LOL.

Well you should be impressed by Lafayette's QB (Walker Wood), he has an offer from Louisville, but committed to Kentucky a couple months ago.

Lafayette also has a near five star in OL Jedrick Wills (offers from every big program in the country ).

Young is a BEAST. Glad the op isn't the one who evaluates recruits for us. I guess Saban is wrong about him also. I've watched plenty of film on young, and never been anything less than thouroghly impressed.

There have been no comments about Young not being a talented recruit. To use your description, he was not a Beast in the championship game. That's the gist of my posts. Nothing else implied or inferred. The young man certainly has the size to be a great college lineman.

AJ I know Landon and can tell you his character may be his biggest quality. Great family, great Yes Sir/No Sir kid. Volunteers in his community etc.

Keep in mind he is a track and wresting champion as well and just two years ago was only 250 pounds. Didn't even take football seriously until Soph year. He's just now growing into his new size and is strong as an ox. Like others have said, big difference for a star DE to show out vs. a OL. He'll be more than fine. trust me. Once he gets a little better with his footwork to wear he can lock on to folks, make better initial contact and use his leverage look out because he maul them.

Landon Young is going to be very good but let's give him some time! From his junior year to his senior, wow no comparison. From skinny to a man this year. Like Kybluedude said he needs to redshirt! It's hard for us as fans to remember if you start him as a freshman that puts an eighteen or nineteen year old against redshirted twenty-three or twenty-four year old men. Redshirt him.

Yes he will. Landon Young is a great talent. Can't wait to see that big boy owning people on the o line at UK.

He's a damn beast!

Rivals has Young ranked as the number 4 OT in the country. UK hasn't had a O-lineman ranked close to that from high school in a long, long time. Antonio Hall is the last time we've had one ranked like that. Before that, you probably have to go back to Doug Williams. Mike Pfeifer was a a big recruit at the time but I don't believe he was that ranked that high and he was projected to be more of a D-lineman coming out of high school. Really excited to see Young play. Definitely don't see him getting redshirted. It will probably have to be baptism by fire.

Kentucky, Alabama, Florida, Ohio State, Auburn, Miami, South Carolina.......all think enough of Young.

Scout, 247, Rivals, ESPN.......all rate Young as one of the more elite players in this class.
