Largest schools not to play....

Football is a core sport in many school districts. That said, I am wondering: What are the biggest schools in the state that do not offer their students the opportunity to play football (by itself, or by co-op)? Manteno was almost 400 students when it started playing in 2002, and we wondered then if we were one of the largest not to play? Right now the biggest school in the Kankakee area not to play is Beecher, who has an enrollment of 328...

In CPS, I would say Jones College Prep is probably the largest. 1800+ was the last enrollment numbers I saw. Excellent school academically, one of the tops in the state but no football team.

Whitney Young has 2100+ and couldn't field a team last year. I would guess that might be the largest

Other schools suffering from low testosterone:

Northside, enrollment 1069. No football.
UNO Soccer Academy, capacity 906 ... should have checked with the IHSA before becoming a "soccer academy" and prohibiting themselves from competition.

Whitney Young actually fielded a team last season. However they lost the war of attrition and grades plus injuries caused them to have to forfeit the remainder of their season. A new coach was hired for this season however I'm not sure if they will have a varsity team or just build from the bottom up first.

516 Lansing Illiana Christian. They are moving to Indiana but I e-mailed them and have no interest to start a football team. They are missing the boat I think and ofc would make the playoffs every year in Indiana lol.Looking at some of the Chicago Schools.Disney 487,FW Parker 329,Wells 377 and they had football for some years,Latin 471,Cristo Rey Jesuit 566.
On a sad note I see St.Francis De Sales a school which always had over 1,000 students and football which it dropped now is at 125 :(

As we all sit around & get ready for football I thought I'd include schools without football in Chicago that have unique & great nicknames!! Aspira Early College Pumas,CICS Northtown Pumas,Acero Cuz Dragos,Aspira Business & Finance White Tigers,Epic Academy Legends,FW Parker Colonels,Cristo Rey Cristeros(The 20th century was the bloodiest century in history, the "century of massacres,"1 "hell's century,"2the century of martyrs-just like all the others? No, not just like all the others; it was the great century of martyrs, infinitely more than the others....Never had there been so many martyrs in the space of 100 years, not even in the space of 1,000 years.3 And these tens of millions of Christians, the victims of a century in open revolt against God, remain unknown and unsung. Today I would like to recall for you the Mexican Catholics who, some 70 years ago, rose up against Freemasonry for the social reign of our Lord Jesus Christ. They were called the Cristeros.)

The Number are off the IHSA website. I don't get them either
Enrollment: 328 (B) / 541.20 (multiplied) -- that means actual enrollment is 164 boys.
I've actually had a conversation with a board member from that school about football. If you ever meet someone from Northridge, and want to have a laugh, ask them how they can be an all-boys school and not have football.

Well that makes sense. Tuition is $13690. With 5K discount for first responders. With 164 they could not field teams on three levels. Maybe form a coop with someone else?

T-Town kinda surprised me, but at 337 they are in the same boat as Beecher. Nobody wants to co-op an existing program because it will bump them up a class or even 2 classes for the playoffs. Effingham, even, would be bumped from a comfy 714 4A to mid 5A...I thought Effingham was one of those 4A/5A border schools until Manteno went there last year 1st round...

I was going to mention Cairo but my god they are down to 94 students. They took a hit like SFDS!!! What happened out there? Weren't they a much bigger school? I know they had 2 decent teams but like St.Anne were mostly terrible in football. They did have a cool logo on their helmets similar to the Seattle Pilots of 1969.As far as the late 80's they had almost 50 players on Varsity

St. Anne dropped football in 78 just as a number of schools around Kankakee were adding...Coal City & Reed Custer come to mind. The Cardinals, I believe, were victims of the old KVC - Herscher & McNamara being so much bigger than everyone else. Momence was very consistent - winning 6 or more games 8 straight years. Peotone wasn't good...a couple of 5 win seasons. Central wasn't very good...But St. Anne did have plenty of athletes...3rd in track the year they dropped football, and a great hoops tradition - went to an event in their gym last month and flashbacked to Rick Schoon (their current longtime hoops coach) feeding Don Williams (track scholarship to Arkansas)for about a zillion dunks off the 1-3-1 trap...Won a trophy case full of track trophies in the 80's...Baseball, however, wasn't very good - all the studs ran track...And heaven knows how good they could have been if so much of their talent didn't go to Mac...

Many people should remember seeing the alternating red and white vertical-striped track uniforms from St. Anne of that time - usually viewed from behind on 1 of their runners!
