AN EXCERPT:

The Mountaineers went 7-6 overall and 5-4 in the conference in a season that ended with a 45-37 Liberty Bowl loss to Texas A&M.

“We won four road games,” Holgorsen said. “Especially defensively, we showed that we could play with anybody.

“If you've got a chance to play really good defense and your kicking game's sound, you're going to win some games.”

The problem is, and will be for this team, you have to score 35 or more points nowadays to win any game. The offense needs to pave the way too. You can't win unless you score and this team needs to put the ball in the end zone. Last year there were too many missed opportunities in the Red Zone. Kicking field goals can win you a close game but we need more TD's.

Am curious to see many things on offense, in no particular order:

1) How effective is the run blocking?

2) Will the tight ends make a critical contribution?

3) Will William Crest be used as a "secret weapon" to counter whatever the defenses are trying to take away?

4) Does Skylar Howard's athleticism and judgment compensate for his lack of height when it comes to finding receivers?

5) Is Wendell Smallwood poised for a Heisman-caliber season? Or maybe Rushel Shell?

6) Who steps up as the go-to receiver(s)?

7) Is Dakiel Shorts truly faster than Tavon Austin, and, if so, is he half as elusive?
