I'm not sure what to make of Shug running Honor Code in the Kelso Mile instead of the Jockey Club Gold Cup but I think my money may be on him in the Classic. He will be fresh for it and I think Beholder and AP might take each other out leaving him to win at 5 or 6 to 1.
Runhappy was impressive today. It will be interesting to see where Private Zone goes. I guess that depends on who goes in the dirt mile and who goes in the Sprint.

Pizza Man is going to win the Longines Breeder's Cup Turf.

Is there a chance Shared Belief runs in the BC Classic? Agree with the OP on Honor Code, he'll be coming hard late down the stretch.

Thanks to the weather the best thing to do is throw out all the preps except the Kelso. Shug used the Met as an effective prep for HC this summer, so i don't believe the JCGC was a serious option for them. HC got his trip on a **** track againt 5 other horses who were crawling, and he was flying late. I'll look at Frosted and Keen Ice in the Classic as well. Rest of the races, who knows, until they get all the entries in, and figure out who's running where. Will also be interesting to see how Keeneland's track will be playing leading up...I do think the local guys McLaughlin, Romans, Shug...could be live both days.

Pizza Man...the hope of Illinois. He's in deep water..

Shared Belief is back around, but wont be racing until next year.

Regarding Keen Ice, article this morning said Romans looking for a back-up plan if Castellano stays put on Honor Code. Desormeaux has ridden him before, but after KD failed a breathalyzer during live racing at Del Mar, i'd be hesitant to give him a leg back up. If they're available: Saez, Rosario, or Lezcano is who I'd look at.

Desormeaux rode Keen Ice in the Travers after the positive breathalyzer.
I was wrong. He rode Texas Red in the Travers.

It was Del Mar. He blew a .04 after they smelled booze on him, and the track officials were notified. Stews let him ride the next race before they sat him down. :eek:kay:
I wont bet him after he killed me in the early pick 4 on SA Derby day. That said, his ride on TR in the Jim Dandy was indeed a throwback effort for him.

I'm not as down on Honor Code for the Kelso effort as some are. Slow fractions and an off track. It's just going to help my odds.
Depending on the post draw and if Private Zone goes in the Sprint or the Dirt Mile Liam's Map could be even money or less in the Dirt Mile. It never really occurred to me that they don't run dirt races at a mile (I know, a mile 1/16th as it will be on BC day) at Keeneland. Apparently the first turn comes up quick and outside posts better break well or be done.
Also notice that I called it the Dirt Mile but if I talk about the turf mile I will just call it the Mile. Call me old school or an old fogey but that's how I roll.

PARX is still Philly, and there should only be one day for the BC. We're fogies, Glenn. [cheers]

Knock on HC was he couldn't get two turns...until he did. That's the thing with deep closers..they have to have so much go their way, most importantly the pace and the trip. But, on the flip side, they can outrun their pedigree with their running style, so you don't know what you're going to get. Bit off topic, but his style is very similar to Unbridled, who actually was an effective sprinter. Even beat Housebuster at 7F.

Speaking of the sprint, some sad news this morning: Stonestreet Stables, Rock Fall (c, 4, Speightstown–Renda, by Medaglia d’Oro), a leading contender for the GI Breeders’ Cup Sprint, suffered a catastrophic injury in a Saturday morning gallop at Keeneland. :(

That makes four breakdowns in a week out there.

American Pharoah's fractions from Baffert's stopwatch--:12 1/5, :24, :35, :47, :59 4/5, 1:11 2/5, 1:24 flat and gallop out to *1:37 1/5.

*Side note, SA clockers had him in 1:35 2/5. :fire:

Beholder spiked a fever this morning and didn't work. She may still run but it is a bad sign.

I guess Linda Rice wasn't bullshitting..LaVerdad will go in the Filly Sprint. She rated well last Saturday, but who knows if she can get 7F.

Looking that way, and deservingly so..top two winning posts all time in that race are 1 & 2.

Quote of the day goes to Baffert looking at his stopwatch after AP's work "Holy ****, we're ready.." :pimp:

He'll ship in tomorrow.

Golden Horn would be the first to win the Arc and the BC Turf wouldn't he? Put that with the Epsom Derby and that's a pretty historic year in it's own right.

10 furlong GI in under two minutes, is impressive. What's not impressive, is who she beat, and how she beat them..rough quarter in :22, :23, :24, :26, 25..they went faster earlier, and she sat in the garden spot while Bayern--who hadn't won since last November's BCC and was retired after this race--and Midnight Storm (bow-wow) dueled and both were toast before the turn which was where she made her move on them.

Frankly, she's never ran against these types of horses before. I don't know if she can handle Pharoh's sustained pace, and then try and hold off Tonalist who may get the hood, maybe Frosted in there too, and then late closers Keen Ice and Honor Code who both will be rolling fast on what might be an honest pace. Keeneland has not been a friend to speed this meet. Let's make sure to pay attention if they're watering the track Saturday, and if the harrow it...they tune that track up, AP in the 4 could just go out on his own.

I trust Gary Stevens and these are his words:

“It was the best performance of any horse I’ve ridden – by far. She’s in her own league.”

These words tumbled from the lips of Gary Stevens, perched at the foot of the Santa Anita grandstand, while he watched the sun push clear of the bright crimson slab of the San Gabriel Mountains facing us.

The jockey’s renown for overstatement isn’t lost on him. “People say, ‘oh, it’s Gary Stevens, the last horse he rode is the best horse he ever rode, blah blah blah.’” But he remains unrepentant.

“She’s in her own paddock,” he said. “She breaths different air to any horse I’ve ridden. No matter what happens from here till tomorrow, she’s the best that I’ve ever sat on, or ever will sit on. Anything. Grass. Dirt. Sprint. I don’t care."
