Zach Smith may have made some mistakes, but I won't dog out anybody that plays as hard as they can. He a least went wide open, unlike somebody like Tommy Kelly who ,some how, ended up making millions.

I get locked for picking on Miss MSU.

Lock those dogging Smith.

No one can doubt Zach's toughness or effort. He leads with his helmet on a lot of hits so it's not a suprise he's suffered a few concussions. If he's had more than 3 or 4 concussions, he needs to hang it up.

Could not have said it better myself. Zach get well and I hope you return to the feild but concussions can be a career ending injury.

He may be physically limited, but he plays hard and uses the talent that he has. I get as mad as everyone else when we don't make plays, but I won't ever criticize a player who gives it his all, even if it comes with limits. Posts making fun of him with concussions, are about as humorous are laughing at people with cancer, autism, or other physical limitations/handicaps/illnesses. Mullen has played a bunch of true freshmen--if there was someone who was better, I think we would have seen them by now.

I hate it if it is true. While I don't believe he should have been starting at FS, he would have been great for us on ST and possibly a nickel role. I don't have any animosity towards Smith.

Zach gives as much effort as anyone on the field. I think ripping on him is kind of dubm.
Hell I wish half our players gave the effort he does.

I don't think you'll find many people that would ever personally be pissed at a player for not being talented. At least nothing beyond getting caught up in the moment at games yelling out "you suck, [insert name]", "damn it, [insert name]", etc. That just happens. I won't say that hearing that doesn't affect players. But, I would think most players are too focused on getting their jobs done on the field to let that bother them too much. That kind of behavior has been around forever and always will be. If you are physically talented enough to receive a free education to play a sport, I'd say you can deal with the occasional boo bird from the stands.

I also think its fair game to be pissed/critical if said untalented player was the best option we have to put on the field (thanks, crooms!). But, that should be directed to coaching staffs versus players that bust their asses off on and off the field. Fervid criticism of coaching staff performance is well merited when the head coach is or is being made a millionaire.

All that being said, kicking ZS while he's down is a low blow and generally ****** thing to do. I agree - lay off the guy.

I appreciated his effort. I still say Henig might have been the toughest SOB we've seen in a long time. He took a hellacious beating out there and kept getting up and kept fighting. How many series did he play with a broken collarbone against South Carolina? I want to say he played with a broken jaw at one point too.

I'm just saying that if I give money to MSU and buy tickets etc etc that I can say whatever I want about the product on the field because I am assisting to pay for it (I am not saying if you don't give it doesn't entitle you to say so as well), and even if I weren't paying for it, saying someone isn't good at something isn't a disgrace when it's the truth.

Do I admire Zach Smith for playing hard and giving 100%? Yes.

Does that mean he doesn't suck at his position? No.

Same thing applies for Henig, and there were far fewer cries for his honor than Zach Smith. Hell Henig actually won a ballgame or 2 for us. Has Zach Smith done anything major to where he's won a game for us? I cannot think of anytime he has done so.

Disclaimer: In no way am I a furboy apologist. He sucked too.

for MSU every year, and it's usually some white guy- like Josh Morgan, Will Prosser, Lance Long, etc. or the QB. Truth is, Washington and Anderson aren't all that much better.

...not necessarily starting, but playing their hearts out on special teams. He gave his all for MSU and if he decides to hang 'em up, it is obviously for health reasons.

and not for talent, for being lost like a freshman out there. though come to think of it, that's probably Croom and company's fault for not coaching him up any. coaches need to start playing towards his strengths (blitzing, one-on-one, basic coverage), and stop treating him like a senior who can make good snap decisions. i've never understood the calls to move him to safety.

i haven't seen Anderson screw up much. I did notice Watson got snaps last week, and got burned bad on one play.
