Aside from sucking, we don't have as many sports as the rest of the SEC schools, so that hurts us too

If we only had reporters that would ask Selmon why we suck and what’s his plan to not suck.

Yeah, unless we win nattys/conference championships in every sport we play in, we'll never win the director's cup.

It's mostly the sucking. This has been one of the worst years for Mississippi State sports since the 1980s.

Just glancing at these rankings in past years, it looks like State has been lagging behind for a while. Dating back to when Greg Byrne took over in 2008, State has never ranked better than 11th in the SEC, and even then that was for just one season. Every other year State has been in the bottom two or three in the conference:

'08-'09: 12th SEC / 100th nationally
'09-'10: 12th SEC / 114th nationally
'10-'11: 12th SEC / 79th nationally
'11-'12: 12th SEC / 80th nationally

- SEC expands to 14 teams in 2012 -

'12-'13: 12th SEC / 49th nationally
'13-'14: 13th SEC / 52nd nationally
'14-'15: 13th SEC / 59th nationally
'15-'16: 12th SEC / 44th nationally
'16-'17: 13th SEC / 49th nationally
'17-'18: 13th SEC / 44th nationally
'18-'19: 11th SEC / 42nd nationally
'19-'20: No rankings (COVID)
'20-'21: 14th SEC / 59th nationally
'21-'22: 14th SEC / 76th nationally
'22-'23: 14th SEC / 57th nationally
'23-'24: 14th SEC / 60th nationally

For reference, here's the AD timeline:

'08-'10: Byrne
'10-'16: Stricklin
'16-'22: Cohen
11/22-1/23: Some random dudes
1/23-present: Selmon
