. . . . , please!

I don't care if you're on a "device." Take the damn time to be coherent! I think others would just love to reply to a coherent thought.

It's THEIR as in the Broncos won THEIR game over the Flyers.

I do understand that no one's perfect with his/her grammar, but, at the very least, be coherent.

If you are serious, replace "would" with "will." Sent from my fubar device.

Grammar Police:

One of the things that drives me nuts is the misuse of "Your" vs "You're". Grade school teachers must cringe every time they see a person with a high school/college education still not knowing the difference, or not caring enough to use them correctly.

Your

pronoun
1.
(a form of the possessive case of you used as an attributive adjective):
Your jacket is in that closet. I like your idea.
Compare yours.
2.
one's (used to indicate that one belonging to oneself or to any person):
The consulate is your best source of information. As you go down the hill, the library is on your left.
3.
(used informally to indicate all members of a group, occupation, etc., or things of a particular type):
Take your factory worker, for instance. Your power brakes don't need that much servicing.

You're
1.
contraction of you are:

You're certain that's right?

You were coherent, but incorrect. If you live in a glass house, do not throw stones. Also, please realize a lot of folks are trying to get information to a lot of others as quickly as possible with these posts. If you expect perfection, read about the games in tomorrow's paper or watch tv. Otherwise lay off the fans who are trying to keep people informed with up to date information, regardless of technical grammar rules.

The above quote is from my initial post. Reading is a skill, I would suggest you get on board. I also suggest to you to "lay off" a poster who wants to read a coherent thought.

I do get the minute by minute update situation, but a lot of this incoherent crap does not stem from those updates.

I will lie down and let you be the grammar god, while GBW kicks ***.

Yes, you got a great program over there at GBW, and yes, they will kick a lot of *** this year and many more to come. Was hoping that'd be a capital "g." LOL.

Looks like a meatball Boers and Bernstien caller is on the message board.

Thanks, we are going to need more than luck this year.

Lastly, my dad would soooo kick your dad's ***, so watch what you say.

If we're going to focus on grammer, let's spend a minute on proper use of initials. Glenbard West is GW, not GBW. Lol...just messing with you. Go ahead and continue using the incorrect GBW.

As my mom used to say, there was only one perfect man, and looked what happened to him, so I better stick with GBW.

Bwm - That's is classic

As a writer I'm a huge member of the spell check grammar check. It's saved many a faux pas.

If every edgy poster was hung for grammar and spelling abuse, no one would be allowed to post here - me included.

To quote a phrase from the greatest movie of all time....."lighten up Francis."

Youse guys are killing me. Put me down for GW as well. Glenbard is one word and no other team uses GW so no reason to use GBW

I will go back to my hole now

Classy. My dad died several years ago, so it wouldn't be much of a fight.

Keep bringing the class A meatball gold this season JDhitter!!

The State actually issued a license? Things are worse in Illinois than I thought. Please don't drive to or near Duchon (no parking anyway).

Somewhere MWittman is chuckling.

erieog:

At first glance, the thread elicited a roll of my eyes, but as I scrolled down and read your post, I did indeed chuckle.

Witty does deserve a round of applause for his forbearance and authorship of this thread: He is engaged in the thankless and exhausting task of mentoring members and promoting correct use of the language. I would gently recommend all stakeholders here carefully take note of his instruction; I believe it is delivered with the best of intentions.

Barring something of Biblical proportion, I don't anticipate any change in the grammar, paragraph structure or punctuation from a good majority of members here. As best as I can judge, this forum is a form of escapism to some and refuge for others; unfortunately, the disadvantage of this environment is the tendency to write slipshod posts, butchering the English language. This, however, does not mean I advocate for the delinquent to suffer any lasting consequences.

I'm looking forward to my annual trip to NND for a game.

At times, I would say WWN for Wheaton-Warrenville North when WWS was winning state titles.

You were coherent, but incorrect.

LOL this is awesome. I am brutal at spelling, but here goes:

People use the "," before the "but" quite often, but technically the above is incorrect. the comma before the conjunction technically belongs only if the second stanza can stand by itself. For example:

Correct: "technically the above is incorrect"
incorrect: but incorrect.

Then again, the comma makes for a good point of emphasis, but that is why someone invented the "-" .

Now where is my mistake.

Many, including myself (or should it be "including me), post from mobile devices that don't always catch grammatical errors. I think (IMO) the purpose here is to communicate. With that, I completely agree that being incoherent is NOT communicating.
And BTW, Wheaton North does not have any Warrenville in their jurisdiction, so WN is just fine. As is GN, GW, GE and GS. I love the "lighten up, Francis" comment.

This post gone viral. I think we all get the point. Not everyone is a professional writer, but all are trying to get information/viewpoints out there. Maybe excitement, stupidity, or bad auto correct settings f things up. Sometimes postsmay not be the most coherent, and definitely few posts are grammatically entirely correct. Many posts are written in haste and are probably not proofread. I am certainly not condoning this and have been guilty of sloppy posts. However, in the interests of inclusion, can't we all get along? If someone does not understand a post, there is always an option to ask for clarification. If it is complete gibberish, then you can simply choose to ignore. Insulting and isolating will ultimately lead to folks leaving this site. For you writers, Jonathan Swift would be sad to see that.
