A question for some people with a legal background. I am a single father with some legal questions. What all do I have the right to do with joint legal custody? Vacations out of state weddings etc... I also pay 335 a month for child support with an additional 50 a month for medical bills, now the *****, I mean mother of my son, is expecting me to pay her supposed 190 a month insurance for him and an additional 50 for medical bills. Any help would be greatly appreciated I feel like this is way too 17'in too much. Any good insurance plans you guys know of either. I was never married to this woman, yet I fell she is taking me to the cleaners...

I am not being a smart *** but you might want to ask this on NAFOOM. I think there are a bunch more lawyers over there.

state i live in Mississippi. Whatever your custody settlement has in writing your are bound by but if she makes any changes she has to go back to court. Does she qualify for a medical chips program in the state she lives in if she does she has to use that before she can make you pay any medical. Basically all i can tell you is the man gets screwed royally by the court system when it comes to child custody.

But Mississippi has an archaic family law system. Since you were never married, that makes it even more complicated. I suggest you hire an attorney. You'll save money in the long run. And you'll have fewer headaches and rage sessions.

get an attorney, but 99jc is corrrect, check on the chips deal, hell if you work your paying for it already. Farm Bureau has BC/BS, if the kid is young and has been sick free, the insurance starts out cheap, I pay $208/month for a 14 and 11 year old.

Joint legal custody gets you a say in the big decisions that involve your child. Sounds like your support payment is set, which for one child is 14 % of your adjusted gross income. Most child support orders issued by chancellors require the non-custodial parent to provide health insurance for the child if it's reasonably available and 50 percent of further medical costs not covered by insurance. You didn't mention what your court order says, but you probably ought to check the language. I wouldn't waste money on an attorney unless she has filed something in chancery court asking for extra support or is trying to modify your existing support obligation.<div>
</div><div>Layman's advice: If you can provide your child with health insurance, do it. If your child has medical bills not covered by insurance, help with those too. Ask for a copy of the bills and a receipt of your payments, if it makes you feel better. It's your child, regardless of your relationship with his mother.</div><div><div>

Outside of insurance when they occur. She must provide you a receipt of payments, then you reimburse her half or whatever the court order says within 30days.

Word of wise advice: DO NOT agree to anything with her that is outside of the court order, no mater how much she plays the sympathy card. And, the less contact with her the better. Stick to the court order up and down

you should be responsible for that child's well being. As for the "chips" program, why in the hell should the taxpayer help pay for your child. It is called.....personal responsiblilty. You made a stupid decision.....now live with it.
