Recruiting. We just haven’t been talented enough over the last 4 years to compete at the level of expectations.

It was all the above really, but I was really irritated about how the timing for pulling a pitcher or mostly not pulling. I remember in several games pulling a pitcher that was throwing well but bad things were happening behind him and then staying with pitcher that walks the first two batters they face in an inning after struggling the previous inning and then disaster strikes before he's pulled.

I just want wins, why do I have to know if it’s Lemonis’ fault or not that State makes 5 errors on top of idiotic base running mistakes or if batters two strike mentality is crazy or not.

His laid back style is fine, as long as you winning. Now what?

he gone, let’s do this now!

I mean, sweep of KY and possibilities of post season are real. Be the best we freaking can!!!

just win baby!

This will be a stupid post but…..

Thats baseball.

Go look at the National Championship team. Zero projected big leaguers. TA is done. Read that again. TA hung them up. Bednar and Sims haven’t made it to AA. Clark’s homers vs Vandy and UVA will pay for beers in Starkville but won’t pay for diapers.

I believe it’s Apathy first and foremost. He climbed the mountain and achieved the peak of his profession. He got life/generational wealth. And he just lost the drive. Once you obtain the prize and the wealth, you have to just have alpha level drive to keep going at the pace it takes to compete in SEC Baseball. I don’t think he had it. And I get it. Not sure I’d have it either once I felt like the mountain had been summited.

There were issues on several of these but I think the biggest was a lack of leadership and the ability to motivate. He knows the game of baseball but what he could not do was motivate his players to get the absolute best out of them especially when the chips were down. His teams flourished when he had players that could fulfil that role. They were beyond horrible when he didn't.

I picked laziness because I heard a very interesting story from the 2022 season. Tanner Leggett coaches travel ball in the metro area now, and he told a story about how Lemon would show up late to practice because he was out golfing. He was golfing so much in fact that he got golfers elbow and had to wear a sleeve to practice

No preparation. No discipline. So glad he’s gone.

For me it's evaluations. I selected recruiting because evals are part of that. I also think it isn't just recruiting evaluations that have hurt this team, but evals once they've gotten to campus. Like Stallman and Frei for example, what the hell were those two doing during fall ball? I feel like you would have had a pretty good indication during fall ball that Reese and Hines are your two corner infielders with Sullivan as your DH. So, to get Stallman and Frei more at bats, you likely needed to move them to the outfield. Frei especially. If he can learn to be serviceable in left during the season imagine how he would be with a full fall under his belt. Maybe they had them working in the outfield, I'm not in Starkville, and I just missed that they were getting reps in the outfield too.

Just like a pitcher is responsible for runners left on base, Lemonis is responsible for the rest of this season. I'm glad we swept this weekend, but lack of fundamentals at the plate and in the field were blatantly obvious.
To me, Lemonis was to MSU baseball what Morehead was to MSU football. It just didn't fit.

When Chance isn't in CF, a simple pop up looks like a "I got it I got I got it" , "You take it!" fiasco out there. Throw in the 2B and SS on short pops and its a keystone cops show out there.

Yup. He couldn't get a great team together at once. Last year's pitching with this year's hitting would be a top 10 team.

Exactly. I understand learning a new position isn't easy, and frankly it isn't necessarily any fault of the players. But, surely someone thought, "oh 17, we need to find a way to get all these bats into the line up. Maybe we should get them some work at positions of need that they could be forced to play in season". I mean if people here can see it during non-conference, surely the coaching staff saw it during the fall.

I don't think it's a recruiting issue. We have really talented guys on the roster (as evidenced this weekend), but while he was skipper this year we just looked unmotivated at times. We frequently lost games where we had a lead. Texas game 1, LSU game 1, USCe game 1, Florida game 2, etc. We are on the cusp of postseason play despite Lemonis right now

Something else. Up against the NIL portal era. This new era is a negative for us in every sport, with regards to conference play. Everything is different

Thus, I guess you could then say recruiting. Because I’m all sports, in order to combat this issue, you have to recruit and focus against the grain. Regarding baseball, recruit for small ball and fielding. Find those fiery gritty guys and fill your roster with them every year. And have a head coach that has a history of developing pitching.
