I would take him at OC in a heartbeat. But he's actually succeeding at Duke (and wish him the best for it much like I can't help but pull for Ed O at USC) so he won't be looking for a new job anytime soon.
If UF does fire Muschamp, we should break the bank to get him. Collins has done a decent job this year, but Muschamp is an incredible DC. He also can recruit extremely well. See the current UF class- http://florida.247sports.com/Season/2014-Football/Commits
Why would someone in the twilight of their career want to come to MSU? Especially when they are in a very plush environment. He can win 5-7 games a year and be considered the next Vince Lombardi by the Duke faithful. I'm sure his entire family (grandkids) will be able to attend Duke for free as long as he's there. If he left Duke for MSU, I'd have to question his sanity.

one of the things msu and ole miss have in common is
we both MUST have strong recruiters. cutcliffe is not a strong recruiter.

interestingly to me, one of the first decisions our committee made (meaning archie and mike glenn) was that they would not hire anyone who had not had HC experience (i assume successfully). given where we were it would clearly be somebody from a small/smaller school, but they believed that proven ability to be teh head guy was critical. their opinion was that a coor was too much of an unknown. most all HC have at some point been coor but its a different world as HC. some of you stat guys could probably find out what % of coor are successful moving to hc positions. of course you have to define successful.

Yet he won 4 games in 2004 with those players. He won 6 with Eli Manning as a junior.
