Let me preface this by saying I love rumors (don't we all)...

My main thing about them though is this, we are in the depths of hell right now as a football program. Ok, maybe that's a stretch but to say things are a bit ridiculous in Vegas nowadays wouldn't be far off at all. I'd venture to guess at least 70% of our fans support a change in our head coach. Now, what gets me about talk and rumors is to hear the Rosebowls and Swans of the world talk, Croom probably isn't going anywhere at least til after next year. On the other hand, there are daily updates on who Byrne may or may not be talking to. I'm of the opinion that where there is talk, there is probably some fire to it at least to some extent (I pray to God it is anyway) but the part that makes me kinda laugh is Rosebowl and Gene almost pump up Croom like "he ain't going anywhere". Are we supposed to be happy about that? Threatened? Talk about raining on a parade. Truth is Greg Byrne and some cigar boys have an idea of what will take place but for "journalists" to shoot down each and every rumor just because it may ruffle feathers is absurd. Just would like to get the board's true from the heart take on the situation. If you were betting, will Croom return based on what's in the talk? Maybe I'm clinging to false hope but all things equal, I say the Egg Bowl will be his last game.</p>

I just don't see how you don't fire him. I mean no improvement week to week @ all this year, let alone season to season.

I am starting to think it is people like Gene & his flock holding us back, I don't read the other boards, but from what comes over here, those are the most brainwashed people ever, & for every one e-mail that gets sent from a S-Packer, there must be 20 from the flock into the Athletic Dep't.

I simply think that there is alot of truth to the rumors, & Gene really doesn't know ****, or he does no & when announced he can say he knew all along, but didn't say anything to keep the tensions at a minimum.

After reading some of the eternal sunshine up my *** crap from over there, nothing would suprise me about gay jort fairytale land

Unless we get blown out in each of our last 3 games and our recruiting class falls apart then Croom will be back.

Honestly, I can understand Byrne bringing him back for one more year for the following reasons:

1. The newly signed contract extension and buyout clause

2. Named 2007 SEC Coach of the Year. Firing him now, may limit our potential candidates by a little.

3. Recruiting class looks solid so far.

4. It's been an awful year, but we have been competitive in all games except for GT. The UT game got out of hand late.

5. We have had significant unexpected losses. We played the La Tech game without Sherrod, Mike Brown, Pegues, AJ, and Quinton Wesley. In the 4th quarter we lost Jamar Chaney for the year. Marcus Green was a significant injury as well. Robert Elliot was starting to come on we he went down. We just weren't at a stage in our program to overcome these losses.

6. Considering the turmoil that our program was in when Croom took the job, I feel Croom should at least be given the opportunity to make some staff changes or scheme changes to turn us around.

After next season, all bets are off.

You can talk rumors, you can talk Gene, you can talk RoseBowl.......but Croom is going nowhere

That is the bottom line

not directed at you but looking at that statement right there is the problem with our fans.

When other people "consider the turmoil", I consider the persons that let it get that way in the first place. Fix it at the source.

We did. We got rid of Jackie and LT.

I think the MSU job is a much more attractive job now than when Croom took over. Coaches weren't beating down our door last time.

and the conclusion was that Croom would be our Coach next year.

I still think we/ he needs to win one more game....

Besides Ga Tech, every team we played either sucks (Vandy, La Tech, SELA, MTSU) or is down (LSU, Auburn, UT, UK (because of injuries)). We will never play an SEC schedule (to this point) as manageable as we did this year. A better coach would've beaten AU, UT, UK and La Tech, or at the very least 3 of the 4. OM and Ark are on the upswing, but not without serious flaws. This was the year to make serious noise in the SECW, and we crapped the bed.

But we are going no where and the talent is going backwards. He's had 5 years. That's way more than enough time to show progress. He hasn't.

Defense wins championships, but it's all for nothing if you can't put points on the board.

on Gene's Page support Croom. Maybe a little more than half if he fires Woody, Stringer, & Grimes. I think 5 years is plenty of time. Although our thugs were outta control when he got here, he had a decent amount of talent to work with at many positions. Saban went through some of the same crap & still won 6 his first year (& yeah, I know Croom ain't no Saban & never will be).

1. The newly signed contract extension and buyout clause
As has been stated before, we're reaching a critical point where we can't afford NOT to fire him. If he's back next year, especially if we lose the rest of our games, and ESPECIALLY if he makes no changes, season ticket sales will plummet. We'd lose money either way. Why not have a decent coach if that's the case?

4. It's been an awful year, but we have been competitive in all games except for GT. The UT game got out of hand late.
I wouldn't equate keeping games close with being competive. When you don't truly threaten your opponent, you're not being competitive.

5. We have had significant unexpected losses...We just weren't at a stage in our program to overcome these losses.
He's had five years to get us to that point.

6. Considering the turmoil that our program was in when Croom took the job, I feel Croom should at least be given the opportunity to make some staff changes or scheme changes to turn us around.
Again, he's had five years to make the right changes. I'd say he's had more than ample "opportunity" to make things right, or at least better. But he's either refused to do so or is unable to make the right changes.

I agree with you on firing Stringer and Woody, but I am going to throw a life preserver to Grimes on the sheer fact that we have absolutely blown in recruiting SEC talent for the offensive line. Now as far as Running backs coach....whomever has taught the Dicxon two-step really needs to move on.

We have known for awhile that Brown, Wesley, and Johnson weren't going to be here. We have a Juco Tackle on the bench. If we needed depth that bad we should have gotten someone who could have played this year. Croom has had 5 years to get an offense that actually puts points on the board. We can't even score 40 on SeLa. This won't change as long as Croom is here. I just can't see Croom letting go of the offense. Just like Jackie, all his offenses looked very similar. It is like Bear Bryant came up from Hell and told them to run it up the gut 75% of the time.

If Croom does hire a new OC and let them handle the O that is the only way we have a chance next year. Even then Croom will 17 us with a stupid punt from the 25 or some other ******** that loses us a couple of games.

I think the only way we fire Croom is to get blown out our last 3 games and/or get about 25k for the Ark game. I think he will have the chance to bring in a new OC and win 3 games next year.
