Let's face it, this year we don't have the talent that will create production this year.. And be too young this will lead to nowhere. I'm going to treat this with low expectations and just be happy to see this team make the tourney, and hope by March they mold together..

Kansas played horrible and was missing 3 key role players last night and they handled the game the whole way out. Yes I know we were missing players too, but its different on many levels.

Vermont or Utah Valley could've played with or beat Kansas last night.

We go through this same thing every single year.

For the most part, we struggle early. There's countless examples of this.

But by March, Cal and the team always seem to get it right.

Now there is a difference with this team..........there's no John Wall, Anthony Davis, Monk etc etc.

That being said history suggests they will find a way.

I think this is wildly misinformed.

We're very talented.

Our length on D is impressive. We bothered Kansas last night on D. Vermont couldnt do that.
Yea but other than Azuibuike their next tallest player was 6'8... We had way more lenght and they took our lunch on the boards. UK did improve early in 2nd half. Props to that

Exactly. The length is there, which tells me we can improve. It's an effort thing. Bigs have to fight. Knox/Diallo have to attack the boards.

I'm going to take the middle road here. The team is talented, with great length. The backcourt is far from awful, but is nowhere near what has become standard at uk. The overriding issue will be incsostent offense. Perhaps this improves when cats are fully healthy. But right now there are a lot of guys on the floor who just aren't very good shooters.

Wow, your whole 3rd post and this is what you come up with. I almost never throw the word troll around but, in this case, it really does fit. I know you don't really care what UK fans actually think but I'll entertain you. I was very proud of the way our young guys played last night in a huge early season game that many feared they might get blown out in. What I saw was a team with a great deal of potential and when you add Vanderbilt in later this month it will only get that much better. By March we could really be a team to be reckoned with. I have faith in the coaches and players and will just have fun watching this team grow up in front of our eyes. But, none of that will match your agenda, will it?

Tell u what, you can take your low expectations and your back seat coaching tips and go root for Utah Valley.

The rest of us sane and rational UK fans will enjoy this season as we do all seasons—with hopeful anticipation. If we lose, the sun still comes up. If we “make the tourney” then I will hope to make a run and see what happens.

What I won’t do is write this team off literally 1 Competitive game into the season.

Not trying to single you out but I just can’t understand this knee jerk reaction that happens literally almost every year with some UK fans.

We are young. Youngest ever under Cal. Which really means something. Cals teams will ALWAYS be young. They will always struggle early to gel and learn how to play with each other. It’s how it has been and always will be. Will we win the Natty this year? Prolly not. But I sure as **** won’t be writing any of these kids off bc I highly disagree with you and and Dickie V—this team has some high level talent and I think they could compete with anybody after they gel.

Kentucky was missing key players also. Vanderbilt and Baker. Both would've played big minutes last night. We needed Bakers shooting threat and Vanderbilt's motor.
We almost won the big game and that's good enough ....for now.

PJ was awful last night. Would have been nice to have Vanderbilt to play instead. I remember in 2014 how almost nobody was consistent most of the year, but usually you saw SOMEBODY have a good game. I expect the same this year, and hope that again, by March, they all put it together.

This team has some nice features. Our length and mobility are two points were we set ourselves apart. While our defense was rough, it can fixed with time. My only two concerns are the point guard position and the lack of a go-to-guy when we need a bucket. On the latter, I believe Knox can be that guy by March. As for the former, I'm not sure how that turns out... Just have to trust Cal.

False. They're 18. It's the youngest team in probably the history of college basketball. And as far as back courts go, they had to play a trio of guards with about 300x the college experience, all of whom, will probably wind up drafted (although I don't think they are really anything special, in terms of NBA talent).

This team has played 3...3 games (that matter) together as a whole!!!

We almost beat #4 KU which brought back experience and talent to the court!!!!

Once Knox finds his groove and starts taking over games this squad will be very dangerous come March.

Jones came out and started putting a body on people and started rebounding I wouldn't be surprised if he wins the starting position.

Our defense is going to be scary good by March. We will win ugly at times but our margin for error will continue to be greater as our defense becomes what I strongly believe it will.

This team needs Baker back ASAP, he Knox and Green are the best shooters, Dialo is an elite athlete, but not a shooter.. SKJ played his best game by far, Washington and Gabriel are up and down, hard to tell much about Richards.

Too many people don't understand how wide the gal is between HS and college ball. Playing hard every possession versus 30% of the time. Playing against guys that are stronger, just as fast, just as talented as you for the first time in your life and they are already adjusted to the college game.

Defense was not a problem last night. Not in the way some are making it. I think we will be one of the better defensive teams by years end.

We made a lot of mistakes last night and still were in the game until the very end. I am satisfied with the results from last night.

3 games into a season with 5 starting freshmen. Lets give them a little bit to get better, even Cal is still learning how to coach this team.

That's the point. I think several are growing frustrated with the "give them some time" etc etc every year. That's not at all to say they want rid of Cal; you'd have to be a fool to say that. But Cal needs to find an answer. Roster over hauls with no top 1 or 2 players in the class simply won't get you the big one.

Ladies and Gents, let's not forget: this was merely a non-conference game in the Middle of November. Sure, it was Kansas's Superbowl, but for us it was meaningless in the grand scheme of what we're trying to achieve.

Okay, of course it would have been nice to further assert our dominance over the Chokehawks and the Toupee, but Let's keep perspective in mind as we move forward to bigger and more important challenges.

These three things I know are true: (1) We still have some of the best talent in the country. (2) We still have the best tournament coach. And, (3) most importantly, no one has played better than us in March and April since 2010. No one has been more successful than us when the lights are brightest and the Domes are biggest.

Believe me when I say this, "This team is going to turn the corner!" I have full confidence in that prediction, and as should you. And we haven't seen even a single tweak. So I'm going to stay hopeful for the time being. My heart is full, my eyes are clear, and I know these CATS "can't lose" if they really lock-in, commit themselves, and play with the kind of character, love and soul we've come to expect.

I would encourage you and yours to stay the course with this team; we'll still be playing in April. But the team who beat us last night is almost certainly destined to yet another Elite Eight loss.

Let's keep our chins up. Pour yourself a few fingers of Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. We're going to be absolutely fine.

Trust in Cal.

I think we'll have to be if we want to contend for a title. I think this has to be a defensive team. And I think they will. The rebounding will improve and I think with our length we'll block or alter a bunch of shots.

We might struggle on offense but lets wait and see what happens when Baker and JV come back.
