NOTE: This has less than a 1% chance of happening, but the Kansas rumor and RPI got me thinking...

Assumptions: We get Cam - and he is good as advertised
We go 10-2 with win at either AL or LSU or FL being our 1-2
saying we would win the WEST putting us in SEC Champ Game

if people are coming for coach now, they would def be coming now
if our RPI is 30 now, with a spot in the Champ Game after our last 10 years

What jobs do you think would be open next year?
Only jobs that would be better than State.

To me this has Penn State written all over it.

I would think
FL
USC
OH ST
TEXAS
Notre Dame
wouldn't be firing their coach

If you were the coach at MSU and this just happened where would you go?

going after Mullen. Way too soon.

Now, if Texas A&M came calling ....

is Meyer leaving Florida for greener grasses (NFL, Notre Dame, Ohio State, etc.) after 4-5 years and if Mullen has been remotely successful at State, Florida grabs him. Don't think any of the programs you mentioned would go after Mullen.

I listed those jobs saying I know they wouldn't come, but what program would you consider him leaving it that happened.

I hear it's quite dreary in Ohio this time of year. In all seriousness though, I think the Corch only leaves Gainesville for one of the other two places you mentioned. I don't think there's really anything for him at Ohio State.

And, so as not to completely hijack this thread, I agree with everything else you said.

I've heard in the past that he would be interested if Tressell retired, and if I were Ohio State, he'd be first in my rolodex.

I think the Mullen to Kansas rumor resulted from another rumor that actually make more sense: Fedora to Kansas. Some big12 message boarders just confused 2 MS schools (amazing)

I have heard from multiple media outlets that the short list is Mullen, Texas A&M O corr., and the Houston head coach.

He will bring an innovative style to Lawrence that will excite the fanbase.

Plus, Keenum will go pro and they will be rebuilding and that becomes a very winnable road game for us next year.

Hadn't heard that he'd be interested, but he'd be about first in my rolodex regardless of what school I was. My point was more that (again, not knowing he said he'd be interested) I don't know how it would benefit him to leave Ohio State for Florida. The recruiting in both places is esentially done for you, the national exposure is there at both places, etc. But there's the stigma attached to Ohio State that you're just beating up on weak Big Ten teams, then choking when the spotlight turns to you. Which, of course, isn't to say that ND's schedule is any different. But at least there, any time you even sniff 10 wins, people start screaming national champs.
