Everybody makes good arguments and asks good questions. It's definitely a risky move. I've felt disconnected from basketball since Fogler left. I believe many others have also. So, I think the risk is worth it to try to get folks re-energized about this program.

Just because a coach has not had big time success yet, does not mean he would fall flat on his face. Same goes for a coach with an all-star resume, just because he had success else where does not automatically set him up for success at his next destination. I turn this question around on you, What do you see in a former player from here ability not to coach? Not sure to be honest, but surely he has thought about coaching his Alma mater. Big time SEC baseball, a school that has proven it can be successful at the highest levels of baseball. Landon Powell who has made the big show and successful at smaller schools. What's not to like about this combination. Do you think he could be content to coach at USC? I am not sure he would come a running if the powers that be offered him an opportunity at USC but I am pretty sure he would a least consider it. Same thing goes for Mike Boynton. Hell even through Dawn Staley in the mix for Men's basketball coach at least she understands elite recruiting. Why are we bringing up baseball in a basketball thread? We made the post season last year, just took 2-3 from the #1 team in the country with a depleted pitching staff.. Can we please give MK the season before we call for his head?

Back on topic, I think McKie makes complete sense and is a good candidate. He's had plenty of time to learn the ropes as an assistant, FM left this program in pretty good shape with national recognition, we finished ahead of where I had in mind. Its disapointing we havent capatalized on the F4 run for sure. Expecations need to be higher but we dont have the long list of success here, we need someone who can grind it out. We need someone young and hungry to hit the recruting trail and keep the instate talent home, just my .02. I was not on the fire FM train either for what its worth.

I am 100% here for him or Boynton. I think both could be Beamer type of culture changers and really connect with and inspire the players, and excite the fanbase, and their upsides are limitless. Boynton would be my first choice if it wasn't for the buyout, but I'd still pull the trigger to get him. I can't see that happening, though, so I'd say BJM would be a slam dunk hire. I think we would definitely get back in the mix (if we ever truly were) with GG and others.

Boynton would be my first choice if it wasn't for the buyout, but I'd still pull the trigger to get him. I can't see that happening, though, so I'd say BJM would be a slam dunk hire. My guess is that the buyout eliminates Boynton, assuming that the BOT would not allow RT to let FM go after the 2020-2021 season.

I like the idea of hiring BJ........ as a top assistant. I'd rather he be here as an assistant than at Wake Forest and I think he could help out more here in regards to recruiting. I've never heard anything about him to suggest he'd be a good HC hire other than he used to play here. If playing here were the only requirement then we'd have hundreds of candidates for the job.
