I hate OM. This creates chaos for them (not that it will have any affect on them athletically). It was a mess when they took the colonel away. It was mess when they voted on the bear. This will surely be a mess.

Can you imagine the headlines they'll get if this gets passed and it shows up on the 2012 presidential ballot?

Simply because I don't want my name associated with a waste of time.

Although, I do hope this makes it as far as it can only to have the University give a big middle finger when these idiots think they can waltz the Colonel right back onto the field because some people voted on it.

If you don't care about having your name associated with something pointless, I say sign it.

as long as they start another petition concerning allowingConfederate Flags "a.k.a. Sticks" into the Vaught. The more people that sign it, the better the chances of a media **** storm. I want to see Crunchy Mike on Dateline defending these "traditions" and I want the top100 players in MS, LA, TN, and AL to have the "highlights" of the episode sent to them.

which won't be good for us either. Don't delude yourselves that MSU is isolated and insulated from this sort of thing. We are all in MS, which is regarded as backwards and racist already. And its not like national media outlets are great at differentiating between the two schools anyway.

Anyone who signs this, whether they are an OM fan, an MSU fan, a fan of reenacting Confederate battles, or a meth addicted hillbilly, is a complete ruhtard.

Don't ever sign your name on something that can be taken to mean you support something that a lot of people view as a symbol of the good 'ol days of slavery.

To the pure State person, I can see where they would say this is ridiculous that they are even giving this a notion. They wouldn't do the same for us,so screw em.It's too contraversial to even bring up. The media, the backlash, the old memories. It all comes with whatever perception you choose to associate with it. Now, let me give another perspective and probably the reason that this thing will get alot of signatures in all honesty. Most Mississippians, if you were born and raised here will tell you the media will give whatever perception about the state that they want andmost times,it's notan accurate account of things. We're gonna be given a black eye nationally one way or the other. Whether this or another issue. The media couldn't give 2 ***** about the emotions involved. They just want to **** stir. It's been that way for ages. The Jesse Jackson's, the Al Sharpton's, they only **** stir. You never see them actually coming to the aid of this state when it's in need but pounce on any opportunity to make a buck through the media. I understand the theory of thought that if it's divisive, then it's best to do away with it. But I also know what it's like to be from Mississippi and haverelatives, friends, and many many other acquantances who went to Ole Miss, loved colonel reb, and don't have a racist bonein their bodies.

Blind Jim Ivy

read this

also, as much as I hate those arrogant pricks, my wife, and all of my family went there but me......that leaves me indifferent on whether I would sign it....do I do it for the state of mississippi? or or do I opt to not signing it because I hate those pricks...

perception is reality, and perception is that it is associated with the old south during civil war time (i think).....which adds another twist of things saying that the civil war was fought over slavery, in which it wasnt...(lets not get started on that) ....but again, the perception is that represents an era of slavery....when in reality it represents a beloved man from early 20th century who was a mainstay at all Mississippi football games....blind jim ivy....

I think I will sign it if it 'hits me in the face' at the game while tailgating, but I'm not gonna go out of my way to sign it....

why didn't they just make Col Reb black?

Does that eliminate the racial tone of the mascot or does it enhance it? I am truly curious. Or does that go against the "tradition"

The media never hops down here when anything good is happening but waits on something like this to pounce and stir the pot. I don't so much care one way or the other what your mascot is. I just wanted to go on record as saying that I for one do not classify every colenel reb supporter as racist or what not like alot of others want to do because I know for fact that it isn't true.

on your point about the media's general portrayal of Mississippi, and it's refusal to publish positives associated with our state (not to be confused with OUR State), but if you know that to be true, why give them the ammo? I also agree that not all who like Col. Reb are racist. I personally don't have a problem with him and I don't believe he's inherently racist, but I understand how he's perceived and how that perception negatively affects Ole Miss and the state in general. Take a look at the people pushing this petition. They aren't people you want to be associated with, and are likely nothing like the people you know who have fond memories of the Col. They don't care about Ole Miss' or the state's best interests. They are zealots who get off on the mythology of the Old South, and I guarantee you that when they show up to your campus, they'll be draped in Confederate flags, and **** you don't want associated with Mississippi State or Mississippi.

They can say they are trying to preserve their tradition. They can say they are protesting political correctness. They can say whatever they want, but the underlying truth is their stance is pure evil and I want no part of it. Even as a spoof or a "joke".

Let them promote racism on their own. I don't want any part of it.

..keep your silly, embarrassing ******** out of Starkville.

Miss. State University was orignally created as a means to make a clean break from the ******** in Oxford.

Please respect that clean break & keep this corny foolishness out of Starkville.

The only people who gives a crap about your mascot are children under the age of 6.

If you are above the age of 6 & still actually give a **** about mascots, then you are probably the type of person who writes hate mail to coaches after disappointing losses.

But because the media (and therefore the vocal minority) will think less of Mississippians for embracing an outdated image, we should give exactly not one 17.

Fact is,people aregood or not, productive or lazy, a positive or negative force. Living one's life to present an image that is ingenuine (but accepted) is not worth living.

I'm a college grad, a veteran, a mississippian and to the vast majority of the world, a redneck.

and so the 17 what.

Ole Miss should be who they are proudly. Or get on being whatever they think they can be proud of.

First off, it's stupid and a campaign led by a bunch of dumb asses with little or no affiliation to any institution of Higher Learning. Why do we need another media circus in this state, ans why would anyone want to partake in it? Further more those names are going to be made public and why would you want your name associated with that crew? Also talk about opening up the door to citizen control of our Universities via special initiatives, real scary.

That being said, all of you who are saying you wont sign it because you dont want to be associated with racism are completely full of ****. The Col Reb is a tradition for them, it was their mascot. Im tired of everyone being so scared of being called a racist. Its not racist and if someone thinks it is then 17 them too. Im not signing it because I 17n hate ole miss with a passion. I hope all of their traditions get taken away because they would never be in support of a single damn thing of ours. Especially the cowbells.

If the whole Colonel Reb PAC **** were to be picked up by the national media, it wouldn't just reflect poorly on Ole Miss; it would reflect poorly on the entire state. If you sign this, your and idiot.

Like Grovehard said, I don't consider the Colonel to be inherently racist, but I realize that the idiots who are behind this aren't doing it because Ole Miss lost a "tradition;" they are doing it because they are ignorant rednecks. There is nothing good that can come out of State fans signing a petition to get Colonel Reb on the ballot. The Mississippi legislature has far more pressing issues to worry about than whether a group of inbred 17ers should be allowed to give the entire state a black eye due to their ridiculous obsession with an over-sized doll that reminds many people of a backwards, bygone era.

Do you really want to be associated with these people?

http://www.nationalist.or...history/2003/111101.html

Ask yourself why all these skinhead and racist organizations have such a woody to see Colonel Reb come back. The flag and the Colonel mean something very different to these people than it might to you, but for anyone my age who grew up in Mississippi, that symbolic meaning is very real, and it is some evil-*** ****.

Is going to say what they want to stir the pot so I choose to ignore it. The reason I wouldn't sign it for any reason is that if our cowbells were being stripped not one of them would sign the petition to save our bells so why should I? 17 em.

PLEASE do not feed these ******** any attention, signatures, etc. This silly old man and his cronies seem to think that you guys will help him get the signatures he needs. The whole thing was resurrectedwhen congressman Mark Duvall (MSU grad) mentioned the whole state ballot thing. This is an embarrassment to Ole Miss and to the entire state. Please, do not help this *******. I can assure you that there is a large portion of our fan base that just wants the Col Reb chapter of our life closed and to move on.

First, I enjoy the division in their fanbase.

Second, I still own and pay taxes on my home place where I grew up in S MS.
Although I am not a registered voter there. Just to screw with that.

These dumbasses want to bring back Col Reb to restore tradition at OM and to do it, they have to resort to the hatred of OM by State fans.Yet they're looking out for the best interest of OM....YeahOK. If you're a State fan and hate OM enough todoanything that may negatively impact it, then sign the petition. If you're a resident of Mississippi and don't want to bringembarrassment to ourState (your words), thendon't. This is a lot deeper than bringing a mascot back to OM.
