Almost 4 quarters aGAINST A&M, 1 quarter aGAINST Ole Miss, and 3 quarters aGAINST Rice.

A&M
  • Passing: 14-26-1 INT for 149 yds and 2 TD's.
  • Rushing: 16 Rushes for 154 yds

Ole Miss
  • Passing: 11-20 for 115 yds
  • Rushing: 9 Rushes for 30 yds and 1 TD

Rice
  • Passing: 17-28 for 283 yds and 3 TD's
  • Rushing: 14 Rushes for 87 yds and 2 TD's

So over the last 8 quarters his total stats are:
  • Passing: 42-78-1 INT for 547 yds and 6 TD's
  • Rushing: 39 rushes for 271 yds and 3 TD's

If you do it on a game basis - his pace would be 275 yds passing per game and 135 yds rushing per game and accounting for 4.5 TD's game and over 400 yds of total offense.

Just some numbers to chew on to show what he did the last 2-3 games of the season. The only stat he could improve on is completion %.

If he can work on his reads and improve in the passing game it's going to be a lot of fun to watch him go next year.

He just has to stay healthy in 2014. He will put together the best offensive season in school history if he just takes the field in every game next year.

Tallyed over a 13 game season ...

Almost 4 quarters aGAINST A&M, 1 quarter aGAINST Ole Miss, and 3 quarters aGAINST Rice.

and you have even more ridiculous numbers ... (eight quarters = two games x 13 game season)/2 ... gives you ...

  • Passing: 273-507-7 INT for 3556 yds and 20 TD's
  • Rushing: 254 rushes for 1762 yds and 13 TD's

With any improvement in D, coupled with ST improvement (mandatory 'cause it can't get worse) and those offensive numbers will give even Hud disciples a wooly itch.

One of 4 quarter backs with 1900+ pass yards and 800+ rushing yards. The others did it in 13 or 14 starts. Dak did it in 7. Also averaged 3.6 TD per start.

And he's getting better and better about making the right decisions in terms of choosing when to run. He had a tendency earlier this year to tuck it and take off before he even gave his receivers a chance to get open, but he's really been working the pocket well lately. You can tell that he has a lot more trust in his line and receivers these days which is understandable considering what all we had to replace from last year.

He is going to be really really tough. He's gotten better with every snap it seems. He has plenty of weapons, and the ability to break down defenses with his feet and then throw it over their heads in the scramble. I am worried about him getting dinged up too bad with the running he does.

I think he needs to work on 4 things in the offseason:

-His throwing accuracy from different positions or rolls, and also in the pocket. (he made several big time throws late in the Egg bowl which tells me he is getting there). The one to tubby that set up the 4th down, and one to chappelle near the end of reg with about 24 secs left showed a lot of confidence and the windows on those two were very tight.
-always Having a good base to throw from
-using his eyes to look off his targets. he stares them down some, I'm not complaining just want him to be the best he can be.
-just get stronger. I don't think he needs to add bulk just more in the way of lean muscle.

Good points ...

Noticed some huge areas that he improved on in the bowl game ... he was mobile & elusive in the pocket, evading or shaking off tacklers ... and he picked up open receivers downfield.

Y'all need to pump the brakes a little bit. I wouldn't be surprised if Dak has a great season next year. But extrapolating a whole season based on 8 quarters against 2 horrible defenses and 1 quarter against Ole Miss is just dumb. There is no way he can survive a season averaging 40 throws and 20 carries a game. The expectations that are being set for him are way too high. I sure hope some of you go in for your shearing this summer.

That's exactly 'why' ...

Those extrapolated stats were labled as "ridiculous numbers." They were meant more to show that Dak had a really good last eight quarters than to predict any outcome in '14.

But, when you couple the play of Dak & the defense in the last two games together with next years' schedule ... (USM, UAB, @South Alabama, @LSU, A&M, Auburn, @KY, Hogs, UT Martin, @Bama, Vandy, @OM) I feel way more wooly THIS year than I did LAST year at this time and I think most State fans would agree.

Those are Heisman-esque numbers.
Manziel last year was 295-434-9 for 3,706 yards and 26 TD's
Rushing: 201 rushes for 1,410 yards and 21 TD's

RG III in 2011 was 291-402-6 for 4,293 yards and 37 TD's
Rushing: 161 rushes for 691 yards and 10 TD's

Newton in 2010 was 185-280-7 for 2,854 yards and 30 TD's
Rushing: 264 rushes for 1,473 yards and 20 TD's

Dak would lag in the TD comparison obviously. Anyway, I would expect to see him put up similar numbers against most of our schedule next season. LSU, Bama, and to a lesser extent Auburn will hurt any attempts at straight-line calculations, but if he can even approach those numbers, he should get an invite to New York.

I wonder what percentage of those passes were to Morrow who couldn't catch AIDS in the Sudan.

Just to throw this out there. What if Prescott wins the Heisman either this year or next. How bad would the melt down be at OM if we had a Heisman winning QB before they did.

I hope the RBs can take some of the load off him. We've got two good size RBs with JRob & Shump. I don't think we want to rein in Dak when he's averaging over 6 ypc, but you don't need to ask him to do anything unnecessery either.

But the real question going into next seasn for me will be the o-line. Dak had lots of time to throw against Rice (sometimes because he bought times, but at others because of good protection) and he teamed with Lewis to pick them apart.

I agree with that too. I feel better going into 2014 than I did 2013. But there you go again. "But, when you couple the play of Dak & the defense in the last two games together with next years' schedule .." It sure looks to me like you are predicting outcomes for 2014 using 8 quarters of football. Remember Dak got hurt doing that and missed 11 quarters of football.

I say Nick Griffin will have a nice year next year. He's looked pretty good for coming off an ACL. Shump gets more FB playing time especially red zone but gets 3rd most carries.
