I also don't remember anyone that really wanted Crean. I think he would have been way down the list and only have been an option if we were turned down by at least 4 or 5 of our top choices (maybe more). I remember making an argument about not wanting him and showing his stats before, during, and after Wade and it was pretty bad when you took his years at Marquette out.

I believe one guy on ESPN was saying Crean was a top choice and from there other media members started spreading that. I know some of the Louisville news people were saying Crean. I think the ESPN guy was Andy Katz. I just did a search and found out it was him. He even had Rick Barnes on the list. Neither was ever going to seriously be considered even if Barnes publicly turned it down. Here is the link.

When Petino said the worst mistake he ever made was leaving Kentucky? A tape of that should be played every time KY plays ul in Rupp.

When the mental vision of the game based on Cawood's call was better than actually watching on tv?

Remember in 1996 when Pitino said he would come back to UK after courting the NBA, again? There was a great celebration on my end.
Remember in 1997 after UK lost to Arizona in the Final Four that Pitino said "we'll see you back in the Final Four next year"....then, he went to Boston to take over the Celtics.

I remember listening to Cawood Ledford on the radio, keeping hand written stats and adjusting the rabbit ears for a better view of the game. Miss Cawood but love my HD TV.

I wish I had a dollar for every time I used to hear that back in the early 80s.


Seriously.....let's look at this.

Al McGuire: a dude that admitted he hardly, if ever, watched game film.....and a guy who wanted to ride his dirt bike the night of the 1977 NCAA title game, because he was worried that he might screw things up and cost Marquette a national championship. Instead the Rev. Most Father Whatever-his-name-was ordered McGuire to coach the game.
Can you imagine Dr. Singletary or ANYONE for that matter having to order Joe B to coach a game?

So, do any of you REMEMBER WHEN that crap was being tossed about???

I'm old too, yeah I remember all those. Still hurts a little wondering what would have happened with the program if we'd landed Behnke and Kemp.

I was feeling nostalgic a few weeks ago and actually found some old door footage on youtube, watched it for over ten minutes.

Nor do I. All the other's you mention, particularly Billy D were debated ad nauseam. I don't recall anyone wanting Crean. Selective memory perhaps.

I remember "Kentucky IS college basketball". It was late in Rick's tenure, and some thought it would go on forever. History does have a way of repeating itself.

Remember when Billy Clyde was supposed to pull a David Copperfield at Big Blue Madness by magically appearing out of thin air behind a giant sheet? But when the sheet dropped, he wasn't there, but instead, he just casually walked out on to the court from the side behind the bench. Everyone just gave an awkward cheer, a half-hearted clap, and silently wondered in their heads, "WTF was that all about?"

Remember when Joe B paraded the '78 championship trophy around to high school gyms in KY to accompany the Senior's "UK Barnstorming Tour".

Remember when Cal continued this tradition with parades and a train barnstorming through Kentucky showing off the '12 National Title.

Remember when UL fans went batshit crazy because Cal rode in the Kentucky Derby Parade with the '12 National Trophy.


Damn! Cal's a marketing genius.

Remember when Tubby defied logic and landed a recruiting class of Rajon Rondo, Joe Crawford, Randolph Morris and Ramel Bradley. How the heck did he pull that off, as awful of a recruiter as he was. I know they didn't deliver on the court, but those guys were HYPED.

Remember when a beast named Matt Pilgrim was going to save us all? Legendary pick up performer.

GJ Vilarino was all we needed to solidify the point guard spot.

And one of my all time favorites, watching Meeks light up UT for 54.

Dwight Perry, instead of Bobby Perry, started in an NCAA tournament game because that coaching staff filled out the lineup card incorrectly...
