Work out a future OOC schedule for MSU through at least 2014. You don't have to be specific, you can say "BCS Team A", "Non-BCS Team A", or "I-AA Team", but you have to specify home or away.

Also, you may reschedule already scheduled games, but you may not cancel them.

Your goal is seven home games a season, which means at least three OOC home games. BCS games must be home-and-home. Non-BCS games may be home-and-home, 2-for-1, 3-for-2, etc., but must include at least one return game. That's just the economics of the game these days.

That said, here's what we currently have scheduled for the future:

2009
Jackson State (I-AA)
Georgia Tech
Houston
at Middle Tennesse

2010
Memphis
UAB
at Houston

2011
at Memphis
at UAB
Tulane

2012
Louisiana Tech
at Tulane

2013
Tulane

I'm interested to see what anybody comes up with.

In years where we have LSU and Bama coming in, if we also have UGA and/or UF coming in I want a I-AA team. If we are in the year like this year with Vandy and UK coming in, I would not have minded one BCS level non-conference game. The I-AA game has its place at the right time, but I don't see the need to consistently spend money to get people to come if we can manage home and homes with decent teams from BCS conferences. I would almost rather watch us on TV against Indiana (for example) than be there in person for SE Louisiana.

I would play a Miss Swac school plus Ark St, W.Ky, and say somebody like Tulane or N. Texas every year.

Get those 4 and all you need is 2 SEC wins and you are Bowl eligible every year.

If you don't get those 4, your *** is fired.

That is exactly what I would do. Having an I-AA each year is the only way to guarantee a home game without ending up in Ruston. I would like to see us play a home and home in '12 and '13 with a lower level Big 10 team. If in 2013 we were starting the home portion of a home and home with a non-BCS team, I wouldn't mind it being a C-USA team as long as it was someone different than our usual 4, I would prefer someone like SMU, Rice, East Carolina, UCF, etc.

I love that 2011 schedule. I would try hard to lock down Memphis and Tulane every year. Great road trips, good alumni bases, so I can live with the home and home deal. Then I would schedule a D-1AA opponent every year. That's a no-brainer considering who we are and what conference we play in. For the forth game I would look for a regional lower tier BCS school like Baylor or a Non-BCS home and home like Houston or La. Tech. Bottom line, we need 4 non-conference wins every year.

If you're looking for 4 non-conference wins every year, you damn sure don't want to be playing 2 of those games on the road.

Riiiight. Then you and everyone else would be roasting Byrne like he was Larry for scheduling like that and still charging $40 or $50 a game or more. We should not ever be so pitiful that we have to have a SWAC school, two Sun Belt schools and a CUSA school to have a shot a 6 wins. Unfortunately we are like that now thanks to Jackie's last few years and all of Croom's tenure. If we are going to get six wins or, perish the thought, 8 or 9 wins, then that means we will be pushing .500 or better in the SEC and we will be good enough to beat some BCS conference teams with some regularity.

I like that Memphis and Tulane are on it. The 3rd game is UAB. All we need is to add a 1AA team and it's as good as we can get. We aren't going to have many schedules with 7 home games on it.
And I wouldn't call Birmingham and Memphis brutal road trips. Memphis, UAB, Tulane, and 1AA is about the perfect non-conference schedule for us.

....which is to bump either the Memphis road game or the UAB road game in 2011 to a much later year. If your goal is seven home games, that's clearly the first move. You push one of those out to 2013 or later to squeeze in room for some better home-and-homes.

That's like Coach saying it was clear we would lose if whatshisname played QB for Vandy the whole game. Moving a game is a two way street, and who's to say that Memphis or UAB would let us move that game? I thought about that scenario for that year, but I didn't think that was what you were looking for.

I would like that schedule.

Considering how well the ones of the past have worked out for us thru the years.

The SEC is tough enough.

The ooc games should be as light as we can get it. And we should play it early. Starting off 4-0 or 4-1 is a lot more fun.

With smart scheduling, we can have 7 home games at least 2/3 of the time even in this economic environment of larger guarantees. A I-AA game gives us the 5th home game every year, 2 home-and-home series against BCS or upper level non-BCS teams gives us the 6th home game, and a 2-for-1 with a lower level non-BCS gives us the 7th home game.

And no matter what you may think, I can assure you that Memphis and UAB consider those to be home games since their being played in their stadiums. If you'll scroll back on this board a couple of months, you'll find that most of us didn't consider LA Tech to be a brutal road trip either.

You push one of those out to 2013 or later to squeeze in room for some better home-and-homes.
That doesn't help you at all. You wind up with too many road games in the future years to get 7 home games in those years without playing two or even threee I-AA schools. Bottom line is we can't have 7 home games every year unless we can afford to have a I-A buy game every year with no return road game. And with the price of buy games in today's market, that's not easy for the lower tier BCS schools to do. That might change with the influx of TV money next year, but that might also push the price of those buy games even higher.

I would hate that schedule. Give me at least one team from a real conference. I'd rather play Syracuse or Washington home and home than La Tech or MTSU. Even if those teams are as bad as the Sun Belt and CUSA teams we already play, the perception is a little better. I know we're not Auburn and can't just buy home games with BCS conference teams, but in the last 10-12 years they have played Kansas State, Washington State, USC (home and home), Virginia (home and home) and Ga Tech (home and home). I do think it needs to be early. Ideally this game would be the second game on the schedule, with an out of conference cupcake home game to open the year.

It wasn't. And neither were home games against Maine and Houston that we also lost.

Well, if I was the ad, I'd be the brunette and I would explore a little self love. After that, I'd look to my left and get some girl on girl action with the blonde going and then work my way down the roster.
