Let's say we win, and Vandy and Tennessee lose...

Agree with SHS, UT won't lose. But just to answer your question, we would be in the Music City. The only chance we have of going to the Music City is if KY beats UT.

In all likely hood (26 straight years backing me up on this statement), UT will beat Kentucky. If Vandy beats Wake, that means the BBVA Compass Bowl opens up for someone. Had Vandy beat UT, there would be no 8th SEC team (9 teams eligible minus 2... POSSIBLY 3 BCS teams) and Birmingham wouldn't be in the picture. Also, Music City has the opportunity to take UT over us, leaving us and Vandy fighting for Memphis or Birmingham. Assuming we beat OM...<div>
</div><div>I'm ok with a bowl, but for the love of God, I hope it's not in Birmingham. </div>

We win, Vandy wins, and UT wins. Southern to Liberty scenario. UT to Music city, Vandy to Liberty is the "no two MS teams play each other" rule is indeed in play, and that puts MSU in Birmingham.

We could play in Birmingham when if it was chosen by merit, we would be in Nashville where Vandy in Birmingham. But of course no one in the front office of the sec will pull a string for us. We have "better" losses than Vandy and TN, all coming from high ranked teams.... But we could get shafted down to Birmingham.

looking like those three bowls would be split between us. I could see us sneaking into the Music City over Vandy, but UT seems less likely because of the home state connections and fan support. That could easily put Vandy in the Liberty Bowl and us to Birmingham. I seriously hope that scenario does not happen. <div>
</div><div>Next week we have got to pull hard for Wake Forrest and Kentucky (football). I want to avoid ANY chance of us ending up in Birmingham. </div>

Breakfast this morning with my wife's UT grad sister and bro-in-law was rough. I was ready to get out of Nashville and back to the S'haven as quickly as possible.

The Liberty does not want Vandy....at all. The best thing that could happen to us is Houston winning out and making a BCS bowl. That leaves the door open for the Liberty Bowl to take a Big East team, which the SEC is pushing for. MState vs random Big East team = twice the crowd and $$$$$ compared to Vandy vs Southern.

not if the CUSA champ goes to the BCS. So if Houston goes to the BCS, the Liberty will pick another CUSA team. One interesting possibility is if USM beats Houston in the CUSA title game. The Liberty has the 1st pick of CUSA teams but doesn't have to pick the champion. So in that case, we could play Houston in the Liberty.

I listened to the Autozone Liberty Bowl hour last week, and Steve Earhart said the SEC is heavily pushing them to replace the CUSA opponent with a Big East opponent if Houston goes to the BCS.

In your scenario, after seeing what a passing attack did to our defense, I don't want Houston.

For me, the benefit of the bowl is the extra practice time. Liberty pays more money but it's split anyway, so the overall difference would probably be a few hundred thousand dollars. If we beat Ole Miss and make a bowl, it won't matter to me which one it is. Either way it's almost success by default anyway. I just hope we make it, that we have a good opponent, have a good game with no injuries, and win.

about whatever happens IF we pick up our 6th win this weekend. At 7-5 we would be sitting pretty but at 6-6 where our only "quality" win is La Tech (only team we beat that will end up with a winning record) and one of those 6 wins is against FCS competition then I guess you take what you get.

with 3 SEC schools in the BCS. Everybody moves up a peg. With LSU, Bama, and either UGA or Ark in the BCS, then Ark/UGA, USC, Auburn, and Florida end up in the Capital one, Cotton, Outback, and Peach.

We are guaranteed Music City, assuming we are picked behind VU or UT.

Hell, if UK can beat UT (Very possible - UK has gotten a lot better) and VU loses to Wake, we get the wost SEC bowl, which at that point is the freaking Gator bowl.

I thought someone said there was a rule against it.
It's possibly, but unlikely. The only way it can happen is if two teams from the same conference are ranked #1/2 in the BCS hence play in NC game BUT neither of them win the title game and get the automatic bid. So in that scenario the only way for it to happen would be for UGA to beat LSU/Bama/AR and they go to Sugar yet still have some combo of LSU/Bama/Ar as #1/2 in BCS. This COULD happen, but is unlikely.

I am all for the extra practice time and all and the reward for the players, especially the seniors, but I can't get all excited about our team going to a Bowl as a 6-6 team. When will Mullen beat a Top 20 team?

It's now basketball season and we might be a ranked later today. <span style="font-weight: bold;">We are a Basketball School, get used to it...</span>

Go to Hell Ole Miss........

and tons of people care what bowl we go to. A lot of the people who care what bowl we go to also follow basketball closely. It is possible to do both. We get it, you like basketball....

I care about going to a bowl. Recruits care about teams that go to bowls. If you're not excited about the first back to back bowls in 11 years then you can keep your *** at homeif we go to a bowl, and save that spot for someone that gives a **** about the program.

So we should turn a decade of 2-10 and 3-9 into a team that beats lsu, bama, and south carolina at home or arkansas, auburn, and uga (east champion) on the road in less than 3 years...

listen i get what you are saying that 6-6 isn't where any of us want to be ...but to get to where we all want to be ...we have to get bowl eligible every year

clemson beat auburn at home
boise st beat uga in atlanta
that is the only two team that beat the teams we got beat by
3 of those teams are #1-2-3 in the bcs going into the last week of the season

if mullen was in year 10 or so and these were all his players, yes i could be on board with you but we tanked recruiting in 2008 and 2007 and that is the lifeblood of most top 20 teams right now.

State has seen some abysmal football in the last 10 years and to go to 2 bowl games in a row is better than the alternative.

If Miss State is the best team left and thats who they want they can take Miss State. If Vandy andState are the only twoteams left to pick from, it would not be fair to that bowl committee to not have a choice. State can play USM in the Liberty bow. This has been discuss on every sports radio show in Miss and Head to Head has said on several different times that it is possible. I think Matt would know the rule.</p>

another dang SECW team will actually provide us an opportunity to prove our worth and strength. IF we win that bowl game. OR it will prove that State truly does suck...
