I was in Dr. Pearson's Advanced Languages class. He walked in and said we had been attacked. I thought at the moment some country's fighter jets had entered our airspace and was dropping bombs.

I had just dropped off my 2 year old son at daycare and was heading to my Myrtle Beach office for the day. I got about 20 mins out of town and turned around and picked him up. I sat at home watching the horror on TV all day. It's weird, but I can almost remember every minute of the whole day.
My wife was in D.C. working in an office building a block from the Capitol, the site believed to be the target of Flight 93 that crashed in Pennsylvania after the passengers fought the hijackers. She walked to DuPont Circle and found a cab driver to take her to her hotel in McLean and her dad and I drove up from Mississippi and got her late that night. He and I were on the road before the towers fell. I didn't see any video of anything, really, until the next day.
I had a tech writing class at 9:30 that morning and usually I would watch the news getting ready in the morning but I didn't that day. I get in my truck and am listening to the radio and they start talking about the plane and so I called my dad to ask. Was it a prop plane? No...it was a jet airliner. The hair stood up on my neck.
I was sitting on the foot of the bed shaving in a hotel in Marietta, GA. Corporate headquarters is there and I was also attending the Networld Convention in downtown Atlanta. When I turned the TV on it was reported that a small plane had flown into the first tower and minutes later I watched the plane fly into the second tower. Downtown Atlanta was shutdown so I never made it to the convention. I sat their and watched the different news channels in my hotel room the rest of the day.
At work. Turned some TV's on and the whole company came to a standstill. Had members of my team who flew into Boston Logan late on 9/10 and had to drive back from there because of air traffic restrictions. Had members of my team who had to leave the private jet and pilots in another city and drive back as well, due to the no-fly rule. Really didn't get much work done the rest of the week. No telling what the true financial toll of that attack was if you include all lost productivity beyond the direct losses...

I was at my desk (31 W 52nd St, NY, NY) when my colleague in the associate pool got a call from his wife as she was exiting the subway across from the towers to tell him that a plane had struck the WTC. The trading floor was the only place with a TV so we congregated there. We stayed in our offices until after lunch. A buddy that could not make it home to CT due to train closings and I headed to my neighborhood and went out. Everybody was out and about because no one wanted to be in their small apartment glued to the TV.
The following day with the markets closed we were told to stay home. The wind changed direction and you could smell it across Manhattan.

Was at work when the wife called and told me about the first strike. I figured it was a pilot error or mechanical and could not understand how someone could hit that building. Then she called back with news of second strike. I drove home (5 minute drive) and picked up a portable TV, put it in the HR guy's office and we (managers) pretty much stayed there the rest of the day.
All day, we figured there would be many more than there eventually were.

I had bizarre experience. I was leading a site tour for potential donors (I manage a large historic site for a state agency). The last person to arrive before we headed out said they just heard on the radio that a small plane hit one of the towers. 15 or so minutes out we noticed a slew of military jets headed north from Florida, which is very odd for where we are located. The site is a cell dead zone so no one could get a call, so we had no clue. We come back in an hour later to my boss ranting like a maniac about being under attack and WWIII is beginning. Not the best way to inform 15 virtual strangers of what was going on.

Later that day, a buddy called to talk about the BYU game. I couldn't believe his nonchalance. Finally, I yelled that "there ain't gonna be a damn game this weekend!" It hadn't been cancelled yet but I knew there was no way in hell State was playing 4 days later.

I was in the Army and stationed in Germany at the time. We were about to wrap things up for the day and I remember walking down our office hallway when a buddy grabbed me and pulled me in to the office. He had the CNN page up on the screen and it was shortly after the first tower was hit. I remember thinking out loud what a terrible accident that was and wondering what happened to cause it, and of course moments later the second tower was hit. We both sat down in shock and disbelief, mentioned to each other that our world had just forever changed, then went and grabbed our gear and prepared for the long night ahead. Even though it has been 12 years, I vividly remember the details of those moments like they happened 12 seconds ago.
I was in world history class at jcjc. The professor told us what happened, i got up and went to my truck to listen and then drove home.

I was just about to pull in to Northeast CC when I heard it on the radio. Went to a friends dorm and watched the second plane hit. Then finally headed out for class. My teacher was standing at the building entrance turning everybody away. She told us to go and watch every bit we could because we will remember what we saw for the rest of our lives
I was getting ready to head to McCool for intro to marketing research. I have lived in a number of places since then and can't recall much about those places but I remember the smell and color of the walls, carpet and exactly how everything was laid out of that little duplex off of Jackson street after 9/11. When the second plane hit while the reporter was talking live on air I knew it wasn't an accident.

They were picking jurors for the competency trial of the lady down in Clear Lake who drowned her 5 kids in the bathtub. They picked 100 jurors and during that process people started getting phone calls...we first heard two planes hit the WTC, then that they collapsed "more casualties than Pearl Harbor" we heard, then that they shot down a plane in the northeast and all planes were grounded in the US ...we had no access to any media and we were all anxious to GO. I went from wanting to get picked(interesting trial i thought) from getting picked in the next pool for some other trial and we all wanted to just leave and get OUT of these skyscrapers.
They wouldnt let us go till they took us to a courtroom and the judge said you can all leave now...people were fleeing downtown ...they were shutting down skyscrapers and evacuating. i had taken a bus downtown and did not have my car...they had recalled the buses but by the time they got to my part of downtown there wasnt even standing room. happened to see a lady i used to work with years before in her crowded car at a stop light...she had one space available and happened to be going to my park and ride lot 20 miles away. she had gotten a call from her son who was in the service(in San Diego i believe) they had put them on alert and they were shutting down the Mexican border....

I had just bought a Yamaha R6 from the old Yamaha dealership in Tupelo, MS. I was on my way to pick it up. I passed through the exact spot this morning where I remember Billy breaking in on the Jon Boy and Billy show and said a small airplane hit the tower.
I was working at Lake Caroline. Phone call from my wife was how I heard.

When Bush ordered all air traffic grounded, turned out more airplanes were closer to Memphis than any other place in the country. It is cool to hear there story. They claim they were almost to the point of breaking. They had all but one airstrip full of planes. They were very close to running out if room to put the planes. The airspace was full and they were landing them one after the other.

I was sitting in my office and the internet totally locked up due to traffic. The entire office (12 people) were crowded in my office listening to the radio reports from a small radio I kept in my drawer.
I turned 29 4-days later on the 15th and my father passed away from pancreatic cancer 8 days after the attack on the 19th.
One positive thing that I'll always recall in the days after the 11th was all the American flags that were being displayed in the days, weeks, and months afterwards all over every town I drove through.

I was having a meeting in my office, and got an Apple Message from the secretary saying "Tune to CNN. A plane has hit the Twin Towers". We assumed it was a small plane, not an airliner.
Turned to CNN (could get TV on our computers even then) and stayed glued the rest of the day. I knew bin Laden was behind it ... had watched a program on him just a few days earlier on one of the channels. It was right down his alley.

Wife and I were supposed to take my son to Jackson to see a specialist. I was in the shower when she came in and said a plane it the WTC. I got out, dressed and walked into the living room to the TV just about the time the second plane hit. We watched both towers fall. We did make it to Jackson but all our news came from radio there and back.
My son is 15 now but he still remembers the imagery even though he was very young.

I was on W 34th and Broadway in NYC when I heard the news. I walked all the way down to the wtc and saw both towers fall and people jumping before they came down. Horrible day.

I was in my hotel room in Chicago getting ready to attend a conference when my co-worker called me and asked, "Is your TV on?" To which, I replied, "No." He then said, "Turn it on." When I asked him "What channel?" he said, "It won't matter."
I Remember how beautiful of a day it was (weather wise). Not a cloud in the sky. By the way. To all of the first responders and military people who have served or are still serving..... THANK YOU!!!!!!!
Was at work in Greenwood when we heard and our Internet was completely bogged down. After lunch I had to head to DSU in Cleveland for a tech writing final exam for a business degree offered through my company. School was basically shut down and when I got back to town I saw every gas station was jam packed. I thought something else had happened. Still remember being told that both towers had collapsed. Had to be told three times before it registered that it was a complete collapse and not just a few floors. Never felt such sorrow, anger, and outright hate in my entire life.
I can't imagine what was going through the firefighters and police officers minds when they entered those buildings. I'm sure several of them knew going in that they wouldn't leave alive. I don't think calling them heroes does them justice. It's more than any of us can even fathom. Just surreal when you think about it from their perspective
Was working at ag distributor in yazoo city. I was making a delivery and listening to John Boy and Billy, when Randy came in with announcement. I made it back to office to see second plane hit. We all were watching the coverage, when they broke away from world trade to announce that the Pentagon had been hit.
Immediately after switching coverage to Pentagon, the electricity went out in the office. After a couple of minutes of looking at coworkers in the eyes, someone finally spoke what we all were feeling. "We'll, I guess they didn't hit the chemical plant yet". (For those who don't know, MS chemical is a fertilizer plant that makes Ammonia Nitrate fertilizer). Since electricity went out, we were all waiting for the shock wave to hit. The electricity came back on, and I had to have some alone time, before watching any more coverage.

i was in the 9:30 class in the big auditorium classroom on the first floor of Dorman. 117 or 119 or something like that. thats when i realized the gravity of it. im sure one of you were there too. i had missed my 8 o clock class that morning. that old eccentric ag professor was on his soapbox for awhile speaking of snake hunters and such, my wife was in that class that morning, too. we didnt meet until 2005.(she was not an ag major)

I was in my 8th grade science class and we were taking the Indiana state wide exam, the ISTEP. I remember the teachers were all acting weird after a couple of hours that morning, then we started to hear about it. I remember not actually knowing what the World Trade Center was. After about 4 -5 hrs of testing we got to go to study hall and that is when I saw the 1st footage. Every class room in the school had a channel 1 TV so everyone had it on. (The State of Indiana let all students who wanted to retake the exam do so because of the distraction during that time)
I went home that afternoon and watched some more of the coverage then cut grass that afternoon, remember seeing my mom cry all afternoon as she watched the coverage. As an 8th grader, I remember realizing we would be going to war and this was going to be the 1st time we would be in a war that I could actually remember since I was to young to remember dessert storm and had no idea what that would mean.
