7 wins would be a successful year.

QB: Below (QB play = our season)..I guess that's true for most people, but it'll be the difference between 4 wins and 7 or 8 for us
RB: Below
OL: Above
TE: Above
WR: Below

DL: Above
LB: Even
DB: Even

K: Even
P: Even
Return: Above

QB: Even

I say we're even here because there's never really loads of QB talent in the SEC. We're better off at QB than UK, Vandy, and probably UT at this point, if anything because of our depth with Tyler and Relf does have SOME experience. We're probably on par with Auburn OM & Georgia just because they have QBs that aren't proven at the SEC level. Everyone else has us beat through experience.

RB: Below

You're absolutely right in this category. We could be one of the best in the league (again) by the end of the season RB wise.

OL: Above

Considering we were even one of the best in the nation at running the ball and we return everybody, that automatically puts us ahead because we were ahead last year.

TE: Even

WR: Below

DL: Above

We'll have one of the heaviest in the NCAA and some ok depth

LB: Even

Depth here is a problem. I'm also not sold that we'll find a good replacement for Chaney.

DB: Even

This area still worries me. Yes we had a very young group last year and they have some experience now, but talent wise they are still questionable. This is the shakiest Even I'm giving out.

Specialists: Even

K/P are of SEC caliber, but nothing too special to be honest. It is a breath of fresh air to say SEC caliber though. I think we'll struggle in the return game.

on a kickoff return. Straight into the wedge and pray to come out on the other side. We wasted Pegues on special teams.

but if you count in those two areas, most all the positions go up. Wouldn't necesarily say any of them reach above average status except maybe LB though.

QB: Even
I say even because of our system. Relf can be effective in our system, but he's a well below average QB in the SEC.

RB: Below
As far as talent goes, we're def below. Mullen called Ballard another Christian Ducre, but can Elliot shoulder the load? I can real concerns here, espeically if injuries start.

OL: Above
Might be the strongest unit on the field. If we stay healthy, they can make our RBs look much better.

TE: Above
Not sure Marcus Green isn't the best TE in the SEC (maybe I'm a homer).

WR: Below
Could make it up to average on the fact that we can get the ball in our WR's hands in a number of ways. Heavens could really help this group.

DL: Above
Man-imals..

LB: Above
Solid, not flashy

DB: Even
Could be better because of pressure from the LB and DL.

K: Even
P: Even
Return: Above

QB- below
The system helps Relf out to make him viable, and our QB play has been so bad the last few years it makes him look that much better. Russell needs experience and some more WR's on campus to help use his skill set. We have got to recruit better at this position.

RB- even
While they havent proven anything, when can you remember us not having a good SEC RB? Ballard, Perkins, and Conner will play well,,,and Elliot should finally be healed and be pretty good as well.

OL- above
This group is top 5 in the SEC and the system makes them that much better. They need to pass protect better this season, as not everything was Tyson Lee's fault. 2nd year in this offense should really show from this group.

WR- below
Worst group we have on the field. Bumphis will be solid. Heavens??? He is a huge key for us this season after looking lost alot last season (another person that helped make Lee look worse). A year of experience should make this group a little better and I don't think we will miss Featherstone. Good luck to him in track

TE- above
Green is a very good TE

DL- above
McPhee and crew should play big this year...hopefully Carmon is as good as advertised

LB- even
We have good players here without a doubt- concerned about White moving inside but he can run like a damn RB, should give some OL fits if he can make quick reads with the speed he has- blitzing should be a specialty of this group

DB's- even
an awful group to start 2009, got better during the season in spite of Torbush. They should hold their own, especially with the pressure we could possibly cook up with the front 7...

K&P- even....solid but not great
Return- Above...should be a strength

Coaching- above
Mullen took an awful group of offensive personnel that had a couple of good players and turned them from last in the SEC in rushing to first. Still has concerns at QB and WR, but this group should be even better. Diaz inherits a pretty good group of players anbd should perform better than Torbush did.

"Breakout year" gets thrown out a lot but Marcus is going to be a name called more and more-if he continues to progress he will have a job on Sunday. Then again maybe I'm a homer too. I've known him since he started playing orgnanized football.

Miss. State is still a long way from fieldingspecific positions that are SEC quality.

Having said that, ironically, even mediocre kickers would have made MSU bowleligible over the past few years.

Lastly, you left out coach. I would say MSU's coach is (as of now) below average when compared to the rest of the SEC.

Mullen took the worst offense in the SEC that finished last in rushing in 2009 with Anthony Dixon and turned them into the top rushing team in the SEC- ahead of Alabama and their Heisman winner....

Yeah Ronny- he's below average...

...& several of the top posters. But I suppose you've noticed that.

I now post here sporadically because this board has been rendered useless by the likes of you & coach34.

I predict my sporadic posting will eventually fade away altogether after I've finally had enough of you, dawgstudent & coach34 sharing messageboard hugs & kisses.

QB: Even -SEC QB rankings are a jumbled mess after the top 3-4, our combo could easily rate mid-pack by end of year
RB:Even - Ballard will be a workhorse, he's got a quick burstthat will work great in the option
OL: Above
TE: Above - you will get tired of hearing Green's name this year... will be our #1 target
WR: Below

DL: Above
LB: Even
DB:Even, bodering on below - theymade big plays, butalso gave upbig plays... better pressure up front should help

Did you even watch our football team play the last ten years compared to last year?

HD6 and some of the others dont post as much because they have run out of ways to defend Stansbury. They cant stand the fact that alot of people now agree that Stansbury is sliding and may indeed need to be replaced before long. It gets hard to defend a coach that has had to win the SEC Tourney 4 of the last 5 years to get an NCAA bid.

That I like Ole Miss and he likes MSU. Beyond thatwe probably agree on most things.

Im also certain that HD6 probably stays awake at night with the thought that posters like fishwater and Coach34 want Stans replaced.

I can't get the spring game performance out of my head. Relf will be serviceable at best, withhis running ability pushing him to the 'even' catagory for me.
